April 25, 2005 -- City lawyers overruled the Police Department and charged a band of Brooklyn toughs with a hate crime for allegedly shouting, "Black power!" as they beat up a group of girls in Marine Park, The Post has learned.
In a case that roiled racial tensions in Brooklyn; locals are now second-guessing law enforcement.

Cops locked up five of the alleged attackers — all juveniles — but did not charge them with a bias crime.

The city's Corporation Counsel Office, which prosecutes cases in Family Court, raised the charges against the assailants.

Sources said the initial report did not include the comments allegedly made by the suspects. "It should have been a hate crime from day one," fumed one parent.

Looks like justice will be served. The City Attornys have over-ruled the cops and are charging the perps with a hate crime.

Police sources said six to eight black girls from Marine Park JHS marched into the middle of the white girls' three-on-three basketball game and demanded the court.

Some adults intervened and the alleged assailants walked away only to return three or four times with a progressively larger gang, the victims said.

Finally, a posse of 20 to 30 girls set upon the victims with kicks and punches, while shouting, "White crackers," "Black power," and, curiously, "Martin Luther King."

"I thought I was going to die," one girl told The Post. "At first they just walked on our court. We didn't say anything. But they kept coming back. It looked like the crowd got bigger every time they came back."

Several girls ran into traffic and another fled to a nearby house to ring a doorbell for help only to be dragged off the stoop by her hair, the victims said.

i take issue with the term "hate crime"

I mean, if I punch some guy, I certainly didn't "love" him. Say he's minority X, and I punched him because I don't like minority X. How is that worse than if I punched some guy for giving me a look or something

both are arbitrary, but in the first case i would get extra jail

However, When non-whites are involved, or whites are the victims -- the definition gets blurred.

eg: When latinos and blacks in high school fight each other, call each other niggers, wetbacks, etc. -- no one ever brings up "hate crime" as an adjective. It's just a fight.

Is the definition and interpretation of "hate crime" racist in itself??? Probably. Then again, it's a racist world, it's a unfair world, and it's a stupid world -- so it's expected.

Your analysis is pretty much correct. "Hate Crime" legislation was created to penalize white people only; specifically white men and is therefore inherently racist as it's implimentation is based on a person's skin color.

Hate crimes are stupid. Hey, someone murdered someone. Was it a feel good murder? A happy killing?

For some reason, there is an American thought process that says "we need to turn the tables on historical treatment of people by punishing the very people that made thei nation great. Take that whitey." This results most famously in affirmative action, and now in hate crimes.

This is a philosophy of self hate that is destructive to all: the blacks who allegedly "benefit" are derided as "only getting the job (or college admission) because they're black. Even qualified blacks are undermined.

Meanwhile, whitey loses opportunity just for being white.

Many Americans, especially liberals, hate themselves. They look to the past for a way to justify their self hate, and find some sort of meaning in the past, as if two wrongs make a right.

These programs are sold to a dumb American public that then says "well, gee, I guess we should do something, after all the bad stuff we did to those people".

Except, WE did none of it. And the self-haters institutionalize the racism they claim to abhor.

A group of teenage girls accused of a racially motivated attack on six Catholic schoolgirls have been offered a deal that could land them in jail for up to a year and a half.
City lawyers put out the offer yesterday, but the five suspects and their attorneys have until their next scheduled court appearance on June 1 to accept or reject the offer for a guilty plea of assault as a hate crime.

How much do you want to bet that before all this is done and dusted these girl-thug's lawyers will twist things around and claim that the 6 innocent, white, catholic school girls instigated and incited this crowd of 30 girl-thugs and provoked them into defending themselves from said racist catholic school girls.
