handheld electronic BF calculators

I have callipers but apparently I'm a dumb ass and can't figure out how to use them correctly. I keep getting different numbers each week that are way off from each other.

I saw a small, electronic, handheld bf calcualtor at Target for like $15. Are those any good? I don't need it to be too accurate, just want it to track progress (or lack of).

it was something like this one

Well I used one of those before, similar. They had me at 17% BF, Im not sure if that is correct but alot of people tell me im much lower than that in my avatar lol.

For $15 do you think you are honestly going to get a correct readin?

Those electro resistance bf testers aren't very accurate. Your salt and hydration levels change the results drastically. Same with calipers, depending on your hydration level your skins "tightness" changes and your be varies. You should use them at the same time of day on the same day of the week, and try and make sure you drink the same amount of water and eat about the same on those days. Also do the measurements three times every time you do it. Then take the average of the three measurements for each spot that helps eliminate the error margins some.

I do the three fold measurement (chest, abs, thigh) and do eahc spot three times and use the average for the calculation. Every Tuesday morning before coffee or meal one.

not really worried about the cheapie electronic one ebing nescessarily accurate. I just need it to be consistent, so whether it tells me I'm at 20 or 50% I just need it to be in the ballpark the next week.

Well if your hydration is always the same that it should be consistent but prolly way off as far as accuracy...

I hate those things btw

The electro resistance one is going to give you an even large range of answers than calipers. You can use it then come back an hour later and get a completely different number. So you won't get any sort of consistency from them.
