Hammy or other golfers

The Hippo steel shaft set looks decent to me, but I wouldn't go too expensive, in cas eyou don't like it. Pick up a half decent set of clubs and then shop around for a good driver. If you can't hit the driver out of the box, throw all your fairway woods and the driver in your trunk for the next outing.

go to walmart and start with those kiddy ones, the plastic ones
Thats what i use

I'm not talking about putt putt here Klu

btw: I do dig Walmart though...you can get jeans there for like 15 bucks.

I have graphite shafts on my irons right now. I hate them. I was killing the ball with them when I tried them so I bought them. They are stiff shafts but I still like the steel for irons better...............more control. The woods need to be graphite shafts IMO of course. My advice is to get what you like. Put crappy clubs in the hands of a good golfer and he/she will still shoot par.

But I'm a total noob...next week will be my first time on a golf course...I was just wondering if graphite or steel is better for a noob. If you get more control from the steel shafts, then I would have to take that advice.

the ram set was 199 thats decent for a starter set
i dont like graphite shafts in my irons, only in my woods

Agreed.

Lot of money to pay for clubs if you have never played.

Start out with a cheap set and work your way up.

The last set of clubs I bought was in 1995. Bought a set of Callaways and I will never buy another set unless someone steals them from me. I've been playing 39 years.

Go with a hardcover ball too. Maybe TopFlite for starters.

You have to get the hang of golf before you put a lot of money into it.

Thanks for all the help you guys...I'm gonna go pick up a set, hit the gym, enjoy some of this sunshine, and come back here and red the shit out of thread grader.

Thanks again...I'll let you guys know what I get.

Ok I got them. Acuity GS-1 19 piece set for 199 bones. The sales woman was a female, so naturally my total bill came to $467 and some change

30 balls, glove, some faggy hat, towel, golf shoes, portable putting green..wtf? This better be fun.

I've been putting for like the last 20 minutes...I'll go to the gym later or maybe just do dumbells tonight. I put my glove on and everything :) I'm gonna look like the biggest loser out there, but I can't wait.

ok, here's a question, Im not that big of a fan of golfing, never really got into it while some friends and family did, but would happen if someone or group really sucked but went to like a really expensive golf course, would they end up kicking us off if we were really bad and slow?

Dunno, but I'd be more than glad to join your team just to see what would happen.

the marshall would probably tell you to speed it up if you were slowing down the whole course, i doubt they would boot you for sucking, ive never heard of that happening before

Nope, but you'd probably get some people hitting into you.

k, b/c of it works out I may be down in Pebble Beach next week, figured it be cool to at least go golfing later on when I have time just to see what its all about. Cost is like 425$ for a round, a round is 18 holes right or 9 or what?

k, takes two months to get a reservation if you dont rent a room at the resort and I have my housing paid for so Im not going to rent a room for a grand just to play quickly. But if this contract passes final approval then in the summer come hang out and we'll play some golf there

In. By then I shouldn't suck that much anymore.

Before you get any bad habits I'd pay for a few lessons, easier to fix before they become part of your swing.

lol you may not make it around pebble unless you bring 100 balls with you

I agree with that. I only play forged irons anymore, but I would have gone absolutely mad if I tried to start playing with them. Stay away from graphite. If you're posting on a fitness board, you will most likely swing too hard and the graphite will be too slow for your fast, bad swing.

lolol, Im not worried, Im sure Ill either love it and do alright or get really annoyed and go do something else before I went through a hundred balls hahaha. Ive hit golf balls around before, just not on a professional golf course. Besides, I am only 50/50 this contract goes through now rather than 95% a few hours ago so I may have to wait to play at Pebbles if I am not living down there

I've played Pebble, Spyglass, and Spanish Bay, which is where I stayed. Spanish bay was my favorite, it was cheaper too. Spyglass was the hardest of the three.

$425 sounds awful cheap for Pebble Beach. I thought it was more than that.

Good job on the clubs Jack. Golf is a very expensive hobby only to be left frustrated 9 out of 10 rounds.

You'll find out quickly how big a word "if" is during this time.

If only I had hit the ball....If only I had read that putt....If only that tree hadn't of been there....the list goes on and on. :D

Good luck.

No. It was over 3 years. My wife does this 24 hour relay mountain bike race in the hills at Laguna Seca every year. I surprised her with it the first time, and I kind of got hooked on the place. I'm too busy to go this year, kind of sucks.

$425 is about right. It's the $695 per night for the room that cornholes you. Spyglass is in the $200's, Spanish Bay was mid $100's. It's amazing there. At Spanish Bay there were tons of deer running around, felt on their antlers, checking us out. I want to retire in Monterrey. House prices are ridiculous there though.

You need to get some knickers, hose, a checkered polo shirt and a beret.

Been there done that.

I was there in the late 80's and could have played PB for $75 and decided not to. :( I'm an idiot!

It was pretty cool about the deer running around the courses. We saw a lot of them at SpyGlass just running around like little kids.

Awesome area to visit.

Yeah, ironically I checked the prices a few hours before this thread was made and that was the current rate for April with cart, plus 25 cart fee or some other tack ons. They get you on the room, six days reservation in advance if you have a room. Two months if you dont rent a room and the rooms are super expensive so if you dont plan ahead you have to rent a room.
Monterey is silly expensive, my housing would be paid for if I move down there but was just looking for a studio b/c I keep the extra, a 500 square foot studio is a 1000bucks and a 2bedroom is around 1500$. I cant imagine the cost of a house, but damn it is a beautiful area, Im going to be totally bummed if my contract falls through and I dont move down there

Honestly, it's what I'm working for. I don't need the $2M house on Spyglass (it'd be cool, though), it's just such a great place. The track, the golf, safe area, none of my family members can afford it (bonus)

lolol, yeah, I hear ya. I have had several people tell me how awesome it is down there. I actually have never been, just posted on a professional discussion board and got a job offer and I turned it down b/c I cant commit b/c of going to Australia and was cajoled into taking a contract position which is more advantageous to me.
All over a week's time with documents and faxing and contracting and I was hoping be there on Monday next week. But, its slow and now its the weekend dammit.
Anyways, housing and food and transport are all paid in my contract and I dont have to take care of the accomodations so its like living for free in a resort town for as long as I want til I get my paperwork done to move to Australia. Fuck I am going to be so pissed if this falls through and I have to go to Billings, Montana instead lol

Ill PM you if it works out, maybe we could make some reservations with Jack Schitt for a round at Spyglass or Pebble and you guys could save dough by crashing on my aerobed at my pad
