I have read quite a bit about this but still wanted some advice - my hair is in the early stages of thining, I am not ready to do the bald head thing yet (lots of scars, what can I take to stop it thinning further (It is not really receding) :)

welcome to the thining of hair. i have lost tons of hair in the past 2 yrs and its really showing at the top. the sides are full of hair but just the top is thin. i havnet done anything about it yet and really worried but i dunno whts out there apart from getting wigs or that therapy they talk about on TV.

what does finasteride / or dutasteride have to do with hair loss? finasteride / or dutasteride is used to treat the hepatic system, the prostate and renal dysfunction!!

Do some research man. Fina is a great compound to assist with thinning hair.

There are loads of OTC remedies you can try. There is a hair product care line called Nioxin, that I tried. I didnt notice much success with it, but others reported some minimal success. I only used the shampoo and scalp conditioning treatment. There are other products from Nioxin you can use, and another brand that is similar that I cant think of the name of. I got my Nioxin from a hair and beauty supply store.

Ive never tried propecia. I have tried rogaine and it definitely helped, i just didnt like being on it constantly.

I just made a post about the same problem I have, I have a full head everywhere but my crown is thinning pretty good, I now shave my head to save myself the worry but would love to use a product that works.....Ive tried alot with no results....And finasteride is just going to work to lower DHT its not going to work if you have a family history of it like me, I need something that grows the shit back....I have seen a few peeps with Hair transplants where they take your own hair and pop it in the thin spots and it grows like new, and I must say it looks dam good, but its like 10 grand....

Take an extra 400 mg per week of test - you will be so big, that nobody will notice the thinning hair!!! J/K You can spend thousands of dollars fighting it, or just let it go man...

rogaine you have to stay on all your life or unless you can afford hair multiplication when it comes out in 4-5 years. I would use Propecia or Dutasteride, mabye topical spiro.

Thats one reason i stopped fuckin with Rogaine. I started losing my hair very young. I knew I was going to be bald around 16-17. I tried Rogaine i think when I was 22. I honestly cant remember how long I stayed on it, but it wasnt longer than 6 months.

At that time ( i have no idea what it costs now) it was like $50 for a months supply. In college playin football, i honestly didnt have the cash to keep that up "forever" so I just stopped.

It did start to grow my hair back. I had small new baby hairs all over my hair line. It also made me breakout more in the areas I applied it. Which is another reason why I stopped. Price, Committment to a lifelong treatment process, and skin related side effects are why i stopped at the time.

With the money im spending on gear... i really should try it again I guess. Im 27 now. But i shave my head, and im sexy as hell :chomp: :chomp: :chomp:

anyone with some success stories?
Use the foillowing twice per day:
(1) spironolactone 2% (not 5%) lotion
(2) Xandrox 5% azelaic acid/minoxidil
You can get it at www.minoxidil.com
Also, use Nizoral 2% once per day.
You can also take Propecia (finasteride 1mg)

I do not take Propecia, I prefer the topicals because they do not affect you systemically (i.e., they do not decrease the DHT in your system but only at the hair follicle).

This has helped me stop further hair loss and thinning.

nizoral or nioxin or rogain?? what the verdict

they're not competing products, rather they compliment each other. remember with hair loss their are two elements to consider:

1- reduce dht, in your body and on your scalp, this is nioxon, nizoral, propecia, shampoos and cremes.

2- regrow hair, minoxidil/xandrox is the only product that'll do this

check out www.minoxidil.com for starters

It helps block dht wich causes hair to fall out. I hope so because I am using it now. lol :worried:
