Hair Loss and Hair Trans-Plants.

vaquero it isnt a opinion.. they DO FALL OUT.. when? dont know.. depends on the hairplugs and the individuals.. but i will tell you this.. You lose anymore hair after the surgery and you WILL look liek a complete jackass... worse then if you were oging bald.. becasue you will see all those little black plugs spaced out even more and you WILL look retarded.

No, they don't fall out. The only way they would is if eventually you would have lost the hair in the back of your head, which almost no one ever does. I know quite a bit about transplants, and the info on here is not very accurate (references to "plugs" etc.). Who ever referenced newhair.com is correct, that is by far the best place. Dr. Rassman if you're in SoCal, or Dr. Bernstein if you're in New York. They do by far the best work. DO NOT go to Bosley or anywhere like that (Horrible).

The problem is that 90+% of Dr.'s doing transplants are unskilled and/or not using the most recent methods (mainly pioneered by New Hair). They are rushed and done poorly. So in a manner of speaking, yes, there are a lot of "bad" hair transplants. But the problem is not with the process/procedure, it's the execution of it. Unfortunately there are only a few places who offer great results (and they're not really more expensive, which baffles me why anyone would go elsewhere, unless they just don't know).

I know of 3 people who have had follicular unit transplants at New Hair, and I will guarantee you no one would be able to tell. Yes, future hairloss will occur, but intelligent surgeons are aware of this and take that into consideration, there is a good deal of planning. It's obviously best for those who are Norwood Class 3 or 4. (When cloning is a viable option, there is no limit for who can have how much hair). If anyone has any specific questions you can ask me. I'm not likely to loose much hair (a genetic/family guess, plus expereince thus far) and I've had the recessions in my temporal area filled in quite densley and it has made an incredible improvement in overall appearance (also some thickening on the top. (I'm not a fan of having a shaved head, sorry).

A couple of comments. On minoxidil, it does work. Or at least it did for me. I have used it roughly for eight years and I am very happy. Prior to using Minoxidil, my shower drain would eventually get plugged with hair and now this never happens. Through my 20's my hair thinned out and my ex told me she thought I was going to be bald some day. But I am 40 now and people always comment on how I have all my hair. When I stop using minoxidil for 4-6 months, my hair gets noticable thinner. I will even have people all of sudden say , "you are losing your hair". One time this happened , I started my minoxidil back up and within 3 months my friend asked me what I did. I usually see visible results in 3 months and within 6 they seem to max out. I only use minoxdil at night and I average probably 5 out of 7 days a week. But

I don't like the fact that to keep it up I have to keep up this regiment. But I do think that science will have some better answers in the next 5-10 years. I do believe keeping the follicles alive will help any advancements that come out. Because the longer the follicles are dormant the less likely they will come back up. Also, I put on 4-5mls of 5% and this may be why I get better results. The label says 1ml twice per day. Maybe the higher load of minoxidil at one time allows it penetrate better. I also notice increased hair growth in other areas of my body so it must be going systematic. Long post, but I am a fan of Minoxidil.

karma for you!!

Ive been hearing good things about New Hair Institute. If anyone on this board has before and after pictures, please post them.

I know one guy who got hair transplants, and it looks great. In addition to the transplants, he also had his skull "reduced", so the area that was bald was minimzed. You can't tell he did it at all. I know another guy who did it, though, and it looks like shit. But you shouldn't do it at all. Learn to live with what you have. I'm balding, but just shave my head. I'd rather have a full head of hair, but I've accepted my fate.

I'm in Chicago, are there any good facilities for hair trans-plants around here?

It's not super close, but the Shapiro Medical group I believe is about 5-6 hours away (Michigan or Minnesota I believe). Just do a Yahoo search for "Shapiro medical group". It's a well respected facility, and he does good work. I'm in the Midwest as well and I just flew to Beverly Hills, they have a program that compensated for almost my entire cost of flying out there (taken out of the total cost). And it's worth it knowing you're dealing with one of the very best.
