i had my spleen removed in 98. and had no problems since. they said maybe i would get sick quicker. dont really think i had a problem with that either. however it is stoping me from getting into a program at work. i need to know exactly what i can do, to make sure my immune system is as strong as the guy next to me with a spleen what can i take. is there something the dr. can do. they say they wont let me into the program do to high risk of infectious pathogens. what can i do to prevent that. thanks for any help.

There's not really anything that can be done to you that will replace the fxn of the spleen. You should upgrade the most in your vit intake, and keep the diet sound and strong, also get your flu shots and such[when they are available].
GNC, can only do so much. It appears that you have a healthy system, and that's good.
Hope I helped.

like joester said, vitamins arent going to make you an immunity god or anything, but i believe that the basics will help you as much as they can and it will still be better than nothing. Your best bet is to take a multi and then add additional A, C, E, Zn and selenium because the RDA is not enough, especially for you in compromised situation. Try to find the highest quality supplements you can (these are usually not what they sell at GNC). A good place to start would be:
25,000-50,000 IU/day
Vit C 2g/day
Vit E 400-800 IU/day... make sure this is the d-alpha tocopherol
Zn 15-30mg/day
Selenium 200 mcg/day

Good luck to you
