Gymnema Sylvestre and ALA

How does Gymnema Sylvestre compare with ALA as far as potency? I know that Gymnema Sylvestre has glucose disposal properties, but I'm not sure how much one would have to take to achieve significant results similar to that of ALA. Anyone have any knowledge or info on this?

Thanks

"Research indicates this amazing herb has positive benefits on blood sugar control, helps with sugar cravings and to regenerate the pancreas. In tests on diabetic rats, the pancreas doubled in size and grew new insulin-producing cells."

For the life of me, I tried to search supporting evidence for the above statement said by the GS website, which was non-existant. The product IMO is a hoax; however, if you would like to try it , I recommend 400-800mg before a meal. But, really, why use this so called supplement when you can have ALA.

I was thinking to use it daily at different times of the day just to normalize and help keep insulin sensitivity as good as I can get it. Since you do not 'need' to ingest carbs right before taking it ( like with ALA and I've felt the heartburn with no food on ALA ) I was thinking that it would just generally be of help to take it throughout the day, to keep blood / sugar levels low and steady ( If indeed it does what it's been said to do ) I don't have any ketone meters or glucose monitors so I can't 'see' any results, I bought a bottle of gymnema sylvestre from the vitamin shoppe, it was cheap, just figured I would try it out.

The product itself has not proven to be worthwhile in humans. Not ONE study points out the validity of the claim; thus, I consider it useles. Now, ALA should NOT be taken w/o carbs or food because it's a glycogen transporter and w/o glycogen it has nothing to transport; therefore, your body can breakdown stomach lining and do it's work. Overall this product (GS) does NOT help insulin sensitivity, nor does it stand up to it's claims. I hate to see people waste any money on a worthless product.

Since you have it, give it a shot, maybe you'll be a special case.

GS has been decried by most experts.. it just does not deliver its promised effects..

though perhaps it is just the material. somewhat as the results from ala (particularly in older people) did not meet claims, though r-ala (at least seemingly) has lived up to "claims".. perhaps a certain extract, dosage or isomer is necessary???

yeah, I figured as much, maybe it'll have some placebo effect for me, was quite weird though, this carb up was the first one I ever took gymnema sylvestre with ( also did the ala as well ) and the last two weeks during my carb-up I would gain 8 to 9 pounds, this time I gained 5. Although it's also the first week that I didn't start the carb-up on saturday morning as I usually do, I worked out on saturday and started my carb-up on sunday morning ( I can't do that anymore because I work on Sunday and the stomach cramps and shits I get from eating all that sugar REALLY interfere with my day, and I hate being gastrointestinally challenged at work.

BTW, r-ala and nyc and ginger caps and yohimburn w/ DF are on my shopping list next time I visit the anabolic fitness store, I've already seen great results with yohimburn, and now that I have my keto diet tuned up well, I think this run with it and r-ala will great!

but I still wonder about the gymnema sylvestre, I don't feel half as bloated as I normally do either, athough I did take a healthy 4 grams of ala today.
