Was out shopping with my fiance yesterday and I came across a badass deal (clearance) on a gym bag for $20. My girl was looking for one for her daughter and saw what I found and wanted one like it for her. We went to 2 other locations and couldnt find another one similar.

Long story short I got the bag and she still needs to find one for her daughter. Am I being an ass for not letting her take that one for her daughter? Her daughter usually gets whatever she want cause the family has money and her grandparents spoil her anyway.

Yeah I'm on the edge of if I was selfish or not. I needed a new bag and on a budget but ya gotta understand her daughter is extremely spoiled. Whatever she wants she tells her grandparents and they get her whatever or give her $500 at a time to get whatever. She has 2 ipads, 2 iphones, every portable gaming device you can think of. When something new comes out, she gets it. I figured she would ask her grandparents like always if she really wanted it. Ive had a talk with my fiance about the excessive spending an being spoiled but not really my place to interfere.

I'm not a fan of spoiling the kids. My sis-in-law has so much crap for her girls they have and entire extra bedroom just for their clothes. I bought the girls b-day presents and a year later I saw them still in the boxes untouched. That was the last year I got them anything. I mean, damn, at least regift that stuff so I don't feel like I wasted my time and money.

The little girl needs to learn life lessons eventually, so you might as well use this as a teaching moment to teach her two of them:

1. You can't always get what you want.

2. The law of posession: you saw the bag first, and grabbed it first, so it belongs to you...not her.

She's not going to be able to pout and stomp to get her way in school or in the workforce, so you might as well start teaching her how the real world works now.
