Gun Question??? AR-15

CENTURION44

Whats a good price for a new one??? Someone is selling one for $1000 ...its brand new... Dont really know too much about this kind of rifle...any help would be appreciated...and it is all legal...i have a liscence and it will come with all paperwork...

a grand is reasonable if your not looking for performance. A friend of mine spent $2500

ill find out some more info and ask again..thanks though...

are they pretty universal regardless of manufacturer for accessories/upgrades???

like scopes and muzzles?

There are slight differences between models but they pretty much are all .223 cal with 16 inch barrels.

I personally would not pay $1000. You can get new quality AR-15's for cheaper

my boy got his olympic arms for 800.. i think you can get bushmasters for like 1200.. either way they are phat guns.. i'd still rather have an ak though..

BAH, for that price you might as well buy the new Sig 556!

http://www.sigarms.com/Products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=35&productid=114

Everyone and their mom has an AR.

Be different.

plus, 1000 for an AR can buy a pretty BADASS AR that's been built at home from scratch with nice quality components so it all depends on what the components of the AR are and whether it has a nice scope or not.

You can make a decent bare bones AR for 500 bucks.

You should find out what all the parts of the gun are so you don't get scammed.

Or you could buy that pimpass sig 556 is you want a battle rifle.

Need manufacturer, components ec. And no you cannot build a decent ar for 500. The lowers I would consider cost aslmost that much. 1k is a pretty decent start point.

I'm not a Sig fan, but the 556 looks promising. I'll have to look into it more.
As far as getting the best bang for your buck goes I'd check out the DPMS line of AR style rifles.

whoa, whoa, whoa...before you buy anything, post up here.

first of all, where do you live (make sure the rifle is compliant with your local laws)

secondly, who is the manufacturer?

what length barrel? what twist? is it chrome lined?

is this a neutered 'post-ban' rifle? fixed stock or collapsible stock? flash suppressor or a muzzle brake?

fixed or detatchable carry handle?

what kind of handguard/forearms/rails?

what accessories are they throwing in?

i know these are a lot of questions, but for 1g, you want to make sure you are getting the most bang for your buck and exactly what you want.

i am sure i can find you a better deal on the rifle....

meh, i used to have a hard-on for the sig 556, but the more i read about them, the more hesitant i am on buying one.

if you want a real rifle, pick up the robinson arms XCR

that ar15 better have come with a set of tits and a vagina for that price...

if that piece did not come with some decent glass and other nice accessories, your friend got railed.

even custom made ones by wilson combat aren't running that high...last i checked, at least.

p0ink is an AR guru. Get the 1:7 twist, chrome lined barrel 20", 6 position stock, Front grip, tactical light, laser site, several 30 round magazines,

and keep in mind...5.56 / .223 is next to IMPOSSIBLE to find. all of the major manufacturers (winchester, federal, etc) primary focus is on filling military orders, not civilian.

i haven't found SHIT except for ordering it online (at extremely inflated prices) and corrosive, steel-cased wolf ammunition (and i will not put that through my high-end AR).

I thought the chinese 5.56 is still readily available.

Wolf handun ammo is dirty, I heard the rifle munitions was better.

if you know a place that has 5.56 readily available, and it is in 100 miles of me, please let me know.

my beast is hungry.

IM an NJ resident but the gun will be used and stored in VT which pretty much have no gun laws...

hmm...i would ask someone knowledgable about your state's gun laws (call the local BATF office in NJ).\, because I am not sure if/how you can do this.

i don't know if someone can do a normal sale (fill out a 4473, do a background check, etc) on an 'assault weapon' if it is banned in that person's state. for example, when you fill out your 4473, you will have to present your driver's license and this will say you are a resident of NJ.

i'm not sure if it would be any sort of violation to knowingly sell a firearm that is banned in that state to a resident of said state. anyone could easily say they are storing it here or there, moving soon, whatever...

i would definitely ask, because gun charges are nothing like a speeding ticket. i would call your local BATF office just to double check.

i dont like calling the ATF, either...but i really don't like potential felony charges.

I have an Armalite M-15A4 11.5" barrel flat top with collapsible stock and that's what I paid with 3 mags.

The gun is being used and stored in a state that virtually has no gun laws...the gun will never see NJ soil

but when you fill out your 4473, you will have to list your NJ address. you will also have to present your NJ driver's license, and they will have to do a background check in the NJ based criminal background check in addition to your federal NICS check.

don't think i am trying to be an ass. i just don't want you getting in serious trouble for exercising your 2A rights.

i'm all in favor of each and every person owning an 'assault weapon'.

i own several myself.

yeah, i did some digging and federal law requires the firearm transaction be legal in both states.

unless you have a vermont license or are a resident there, i don't know of how you can get around this (legally).

why would you buy this type of specialized weapon if you don't know it's value??

what would be the purpose?? are you just collecting?? or hunting?? or defending from the police??

heck .;... come to minnesota and buy it at a swap meet.. bring your license.. that's all that's needed.. you are responsible for transport and compliance..

good luck

it isn't specialized. it is just a semi-automatic rifle. liberals fear these guns more than any other because they are big, black, scary, and look like their fully-automatic military counterparts.

fear leads to banning..and that is exactly what nj did.

there is nothing that makes these 'more deadly' than pappy's ol' wood stock semi-auto deer gun.

Actually, Papi's old semi-auto 30-06 springfield is way more deadly.

People are just ignorant about guns.

under FOPA, anyone can go buy any long gun (shotgun/rifle) in any of the 50 states and bring it back to their home state. however, the sale must be compliant with the buyer's state for it to be legal.

trust me, there is nothing police departments in liberal states love more than making headlines by busting down some doors to confiscate an 'assault weapon'...

Manny how do you like the aramalite? I am after an RRA model right now. Think I may go for the entry Tact, it is only 1k but I really want the Govt model. Holding off for now at the 2250 tag.

the p2000 (the civilian model) is under investigation by the ATF for being a machine gun. how could this be? because FN left the auto-sear in the gun and just put in a tiny spring to keep it from full auto fire.

well, since dumbasses have been taking the spring out to convert it to a machine gun, the ATF has been going to FFL's and seeing who purchased them.

i wouldn't buy a firearm only to have it recalled/taken for being a machine gun.

$2500 is a lot to lose.

plus, i think it is a god awful, ugly gun...but to each their own. :)

besides...5.56 is just too scarce right now.

time to get something chambered in a different caliber.

I'm not a big fan of bull-pups but just cause I could own one, I did. Same with the P90. It's a different concept, has some good points over traditionnal rifles but overall suck more. But they're legal, antis dont like them so more good reasons to own them.

No, paying more will not make it any better, it's just my opinion, I paid $1400 for mine. Anyway, I prefer my HK G-36. :)

Check out ar15.com. They have a ton of links for accessories, good place to learn about it as well.

what accessories do you want? and how much are you looking to spend.

you can easily spend more money on the glass than the actual weapon.

wait, was it $900 out the door? if so, that's not bad.

i think you will be happy with it.

invest in some magpul pmags.

CENTURION44 said:
do you have a user name on ar15.com...can anyone buy 30 cap mags?

you can buy a 200 round drum, so long as you live in a state where it is legal.

and yeah, high capacity magazines are freely available so long as they are legal in your state.
