Why in some states, *I know NY for sure* that to purchease a handgun one must be 21 years old but to purchease a rifle it is only 18? Doesnt seem to make much sense.....

Handgun laws often regulate only handguns....not all firearms like rifles and shotguns which are used for hunting purposes.

well i just dont see how a rifle is different then a handgun, the purpose of both is the same. True, rifles can be used for hunting but so can handguns if you want to get really spread out on purpose.

I'm sure the rationale behind it is that pistols are more easily concealable.

I maintain that any 18 year old who's willing to illegally pack and carry a handgun with ill intent has no more business owning a long gun.

but who is to say that same ill willed 18 year old couldnt just go into an abandoned building in downtown metropolis and start picking people off with a scoped rifle similair to what manny is looking for ?

First, I hope it is clear to all of you that I believe that the restriction on the right to possess a handgun, while being legally able to own a rifle or a shotgun, is pointless.

That being said, you'd look pretty conspicuous walking into a convenience store on a 90+ degree summer day wearing a trench coat. Many lawmakers cite this as reason for said laws.

Ya I reload about 1000rnds per month. I used to hit the range 3 times a week, but now I feel I can stay up to par with once a week.

And yes I have my CCL.

concealability. A handgun like a snub nose 38 or .380 is about 8 inches long, you can tape a snub nose to your leg. A rifle is 3 feet.

I just poped open my gun safe. I have 3 rifles and two shotguns with actions and chambers, suitable to be utilized alone, that measure about 8 inches or less.

Give me a hack saw and five minutes and I would have 5 easily concelable "non-handgun" firearms.
