you want to learn how to play?

Discussion forums on www.guitar.com have some really good experienced players, a lot of kids too though.

As for learning look into getting your hands on guitar pro, can be found by the unscroupulous amongst us on filesharing networks with many many song files. Basically it displays you the tab but also you can hit play and it will play it to you so you can get the timings and feel better. Lets you slow it down and stuff for the faster things - I've been playing around 7 years or so and still use it daily!

Well I am learning now. but i just wanted to lean some songs.. and find some good DVD's that worked kinda like tabs. but i can see exactly where the fingues are and and such..

thanks guys..

Dude, check out hte Metal Method DVDs- they're supposed to be the best for learning guitar. And I wouldnt recommend you just learn tabs cuz bad habits can form. What I recommend you do is learn basic theory (Ie. the mother of all theory: the major scale) and you learn it on all the strings starting with C major which for eg on high e (1st string) goes E-8-10-12-13-15-17-19-20-19-17-15-13-12-10-8 After you learn the major scales on all the strings you can learn the major's relative 7 modes, but more on that later. GTG study.

any music store has beginners guitar books with chords and some have songs w the chords to go with it.

But really anyone.

It basically takes the tab files and brings them to life. The essence of a tab file is that it contains the notes but you don't get the timings so you have to know the song inside-out already or play it repeatedly in order to get it down.

With guitar pro you can get it to play the music infront of you back to you and at whatever speed you like which lets you get the feel for the song much better. I remember in the old days I used to record solos onto a dictaphone so I could slow them down to hear the notes in the fast bits to get the timings....now I just hit the button in guitar pro.

I downloaded the program and a pack of around 5000 guitar pro song files off eMule and hardly ever use tabs now, only if I can't find the song in guitar pro format. If want tabs now I use the website mentioned above (ultimate guitar) its really good as the tabs get rated.

Oh yeah another thing I like about guitar pro is that the tabs are usually more accurate as the transcriber can hear any mistakes when they press play.

from experience i can say, it really matters on what you are eyeing on. If its simple melodies and etudes you want to play, reading tabs off the net and practicing once in a while will suffice. Once in a while = an hour max a day.

If you want to play like the guys on the videos you see, fast and precise, then it is a very serious commitment. You have to set your music aside and start practising complex excercises, in the meantime, stay in touch with people who are doing the same, who are way better than you, on advise on technique etc. Watch out for bad habits as some people here have pointed out. You literally have to metamorphize, your fingures will amuse you, I am sure.

Any feable minded person can read the tabs, therefore it is important to know everything about the music theory. Know you chords, memorize them and practise, all the notes on the guitar, key signatures etc. All the technical terms must be learned. You will easily develop the music ear, once you know the basics.

Work hard man, its going to hurt, fingures are going to get harder and stronger, you will sweat and you will break things from frustation, but in the end of the day, its all worth it.
