Growing Long and Beautiful Hair

Hi,

I always wanted to grow long beautiful hair but I always got short haircuts. Whenever I tried to grow it long, it always got out of shape and ugly, and I always had to get a haircut to shape it up.

I need to grow long and beautiful hair. Right now I have very short hair, about 1/2" on top and 1/8th of an inch all around.
I need to know what I have to wash my hair with and what I should treat it with (hair masks, oils, creams, etc).

Do I need a specific diet for healthy hair? If so, what should I be eating. What should I be avoiding? Also, what should I do when it grows a bit and it is out of shape and looks ugly?

Give as much info on growing long and healthy hair as you can.

P.S. - I am a white male with curly hair. I wish I had straight hair, is there anything I can do about that when I get some length? And how long will it take me to grow 12"? I love that Fabio look.

Karma for all.

Go to www.longhairlovers.com. That will tell you all the vitamins and supplements you need. Protein is what makes your hair grow.
I used to have really long hair and worked hard growing it out, but cut it all off to my shoulders 2 weeks ago!
Long hair is a pain in the a$$ when you want to do morning cardio, wash it , get ready for the day...blah blah blah. too much maintenance for me though.

How curly are we talking? Loose ringlets or curls tight enough for you to wear an afro? How long it will take it to look like your hair is 12" depends on how tightly curled your hair is. At any rate, hair grows something like 1/4-1/2 inch each month.

Try www.naturallycurly.com They have great a bulletin board there with tips on styling products.

The main thing you have to be concerned about is keeping damage at bay. Curls LOVE moisture. Get a good conditioner (go to that website, they have lots of ideas. Post a thread if you want to) that won't make your hair frizzy. Get regular trims. You may need to stop putting shampoo in your hair everyday (assuming you do so already). A rinse between shampoos may be your best bet.

Curly hair gets dry more easily than straight hair because it is harder for sebum (scalp oils) to reach the ends. If you straighten your hair, you will make it harder to grow it long or maintain length because the methods used to straighten hair (heat or chemicals) also dry it out and damage it.

Don't waste a lot of money on hair masks and such. When your hair gets 'ugly' looking, go to the salon and have them shape it up. You may need to find a stylist who knows what they're doing with curly hair. Go to this stylist and this stylist ALONE so that they know you're trying to grow your hair long. A good stylist will shape up the 'uglies' without lopping off too much hair.

When I had long hair, I was getting an inch of growth a month. I was taking:
-multivitamin
-GNC ultranourish hair (2 a day)
- MSM
-Silica
-biotin (i think this one is really essential)
-evening primrose oil
-flax seed oil
- protein shakes

Do a scalp massge every night. That helps it to grow too. I only cut it twice a year. I think getting it trimmed about every 2-3 months is good.

man, my hair is long kinda but not beautiful. it gets curly a bit when it gets too long, and real dry. it comes down to the bottom of my eyes when wet, and about half way down my ears and proportionate in the back, maybe a bit shorter so it doesn't look mulletish at all. some people just have wiry hair, mine is real thin so i just jell that shit up and make it look wet all the time. i wear a hat also and it looks tight like a rubberband!!! i also have a receding hair line and it is real thin. thinking about getting a hair piece and i just turned 18 today. im not too woried about it because i look good as long as my hair is long enough to cover up my receeding hair line.
