Grip strength

My grip strength sucks major ass.

What can I do to increase it?
This seems to be the only thing that hinders me from progressing in my deadlift.

How the hell do some of you guy hold on to a bar with 500 + lbs?

I used to have bad grip strength, easy way to fix it is to do pull-up with finger grips, don't grasp the bar with your palms, do it only with your fingers, after a while my grip got so strong I didn't need wraps for DL

really heavy deadlifts without straps have made my grip much stronger. Try to avoid using straps if you can. Only use them for your real heavy lifts. Get a hand gripper if you hand find one that has enough resistance. Also doing forearm exercises will also increase your grip strenght.

i use
timed holds with dumb/barbells(or even farmers walks)
thick handled bars (if you have a spare bar thicken it up for deadlifting with electrical tape) or do rows etc with thick handled dumbells
hang off rafters/chining bar
hang off rafters using rope/towel
captains of crush grippers www.ironmind.com
+a few more varations

Anyone use the crush grippers from the above link? What muslces are used for a "good grip". Forearms??? wrists? combination?. Do you just sit around and start pumping out reps with these grippers whenever you want too, or is there like a routine to do?

Thanks
Leon

A mixed grip is good for deads. The key is to never use wrist straps in the first place. Unfortunately, I have become a victim of using straps on my back movements.

Time...lots and lots of time. Farmers holds, farmers walks, thick bar work is really good...and lots of chalk.

I can hold onto nearly anything though...did a partial deadlift with 880 without straps...that was about my limit though.

I've been stretching my lower back by hanging off the pull up bars at my gym (which feels great BTW). Each time I can hang on just a little bit longer.

Also, I've only done them once, but towel chins are excellent. I want to do them more often.

tsarleon: you should train it like any other muscle group with planned sets and reps with rest times and days off

i've heard of guys rolling frying pans up with their bare hands...how the hell does a person do this? what kind of training do they do? it sounds like lots of fun

masturbating works my forearms, just dont overtrain! :D

I must be geneticaly gifted....i can manage mulitple training sessions every day without going stale or overtraining

maybe its because i see it as a whole upper body exercise and dont limit it too my forearm
