SACRAMENTO - Talk about a role reversal.
Two months after the world's highest-paid actor became California governor, California's jilted and stilted former governor is trying his hand at acting.
After being ridiculed on late-night television for his stiff, humorless style, Gray Davis is cutting loose -- or maybe losing it.
The man who was ousted by voters in favor of the world's Last Action Hero will poke fun at himself next month in an episode of the CBS sitcom ``Yes, Dear.''
He plays the straight man, of course.
``If an actor can become governor, a governor can become an actor,'' Davis said Monday.
In the show, which is scheduled to run March 1, Davis loses his well-coiffed cool and chases recurring guest Tim Conway around the Staples Center court -- a segment taped over the weekend during halftime at a Los Angeles Lakers game.
``I can imagine people said, `Davis has finally lost it,' '' the former governor said.
It might sound like playing against type, but Davis, a lifelong politician, said he does have a lighthearted side. ``Obviously, you have to have a sense of humor to be in politics. My wife can tell you I have one,'' he said.
Alan Kirschenbaum, one of the show's executive producers, told Variety that they called Davis on a whim. To their surprise, he was game.
Davis and Schwarzenegger ran into each other at a Super Bowl party in the San Fernando Valley on Sunday and chatted about the twist of fate.
``So, he was talking about acting; I was talking about politics,'' Schwarzenegger told radio station KFBK on Monday. ``I mean, everything is reversed now.''
