OLIVER NORTH • Politician/Radio Personality

A decorated platoon leader in the Vietnam War, Oliver North began working in the White House for the National Security Council in 1981, eventually becoming deputy director for Political-Military Affairs in the Ronald Reagan administration. In 1986 it was revealed that a secret U.S. operation had been selling military equipment to Iran, in exchange for the release of U.S. hostages, and that money from the arms sales was being illegally diverted to help anti-socialist forces (called Contras) in Nicaragua. From May until August of 1987 the Iran-Contra scandal and its televised hearings put the spotlight on North, who donned his uniform and admitted that he acted illegally, but out of patriotism. His felony convictions were eventually overturned, and depending on who's talking, North is either a traitorous drug smuggler or a national hero who saved Central America from communism. In 1994 he earned the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate, but lost the election. North remains in the public eye as a political pundit and radio personality.

Extra credit: North was the subject of a 2002 e-mail rumor that during the Iran-Contra hearings, North told a Senate committee (including Al Gore) that he had installed a $60,000 security system at his home to protect his family from Osama bin Laden. The rumor is untrue: North did accept a home security system as a gift and discussed it with a Senate committee, but Osama bin Laden was not mentioned and Al Gore was not part of the committee... North is a favorite among conspiracy buffs, who maintain that his operation took guns to Central America and brought back cocaine during the 1980s.

20 year old are usually not psychologically mature, and often not physically.

If you like, I'll rephrase that as, why do you older folks with so much life experiences get taken in by this shit?

Since when is a 20 year old NOT a grown man/woman?

Well, if a 20 year old is obviously not responsible enough to consume alcohol, run for the Presidency, or tell someone over the age of 30 what to do despite the fact that the 20 year old is correct, then he/she is definitely not a grown man/woman.

What if someone e-mailed him to tell him that spongebob and supersizeme were caught performing sexual acts on each other behind a dumpster outside of some nightclub. Wouldn't you like us to set the record straight?

Warik you should have used an untrue example to make your point...

funny frack.

warik, by just the mere words of my post, that is exactly what i am insinuating be done, ziragifil, or whatever, tried to belittle someone with his remarks. not to mention they are very generalized, and someone interested in facts so much should stay away from generalizations.

you do not see the difference in the way that you corrected duckster34 and the way zigakigil did it.

why would you assume that i did not want the duckster corrected.
