Got into a car accident this morning

My first ever.

For the NYers - I was coming around that long bend on the belt parkway right after it splits from the southern state into that and the cross island. The road was slick, and someone next to me starts skidding fairly quickly into my lane. I try to avoid hitting them (all while still making this long, semi sharp turn), sending me skidding. In my attempts to control the car, I straightened into my lane just as the back corner of his car skids into it (he was still sliding all over trying to control his car). This sends me flying around in full spin, across his lane and into the grass where I hit a stump that used to be a light pole and spun back the other way a full turn. He kept driving but a police officer saw the whole thing because he was already there for another accident (and there was a third across in the lanes going eastbound). I was so stunned that when my car finally stopped I got out and sat in the wet muddy grass till he walked over, and couldn't answer that I was ok for a minute or so. I can't believe I didn't hit any other cars when I was spinning. It's been five hours and I'm still shaking.

he must not have seen ya....

did the cop get the license plate of the other driver??

it could have been worse, glad you're ok..

I'm glad you're not hurt, or anyone else was hurt either. Silly people always forget about oily roads when they get wet.

Go home. Relax in a nice hot bath with a glass of vino.

Now you know why people in NJ and NY die every 16 seconds because of a car accidents. If you need me to comfort you then let me know.

Were you able to drive your car away?

No....the stump did a number on the underside of my car. The city regulated towing people were already there for the accident on the eastbound lanes, so the officer just waved them over. He did get the plates of the other car, so they will be in a bit of trouble. They suggested I go to the hospital but physically I'm really fine. Just still sort of in shock. I can hear my mom in the other room on the phone with my sister, "I can't believe she didn't hit anyone when she spun out...it's just amazing." My sister, incidentally, hit a deer last night. Her second deer related accident. My poor mom.

I once spun out (drunk) across 5 lanes on one of the worst curves on 95 (Thurbers Ave for those familiar with Providence) directly in front of a car and ended up facing the wrong way in the left lane.

damn all that traffic was because of you?

lol, probably not. I looked like I just pulled off to the side, and was towed within 20 minutes. All the major damage is underneath. No rubberneckers. But that spot was the source of four accidents in the span of an hour. I'm sure there were a couple after me.

Way to make this about you.

It is freakin intense to have an accident a freeway speed. I had a simliar one a few years ago, except I hit a cement median backwards instead of grass.
I hope they string up the bastard by the balls!

Yeah..all that took like three seconds. Unreal.

nefertiti, i know the exact spot you're talking about. that sucks, but i'm glad you're ok. a car is replaceable or fixable. it's just a "thing" and i bet you find out that getting it fixed seems like a huge inconvenience, but in the end, it's not so bad.

I am glad you are ok! I am sure you are still shaking. I imagine you will be nervous to drive for awhile now. I had one bad accident and I was nervous for a long time, but the feeling does go away eventually I promise you that. I hope they get that guy that caused it! Is there ice up there already? Is that why all the skidding>?

It was that kind of rainy/drizzly today that makes the roads oily, and that curve is a pretty sharp one that plenty of people take too fast even when the roads are dry.

Oh I see. Yeah too many idiot drivers on the road these days. I get really annoyed with bad drivers down here. Just today I noticed someone must have stopped suddenly for some reason coming on to the freeway and caused a 6 car pileup!

Cause there's like 50 million people living cramped like rats?

I call for a ban of asian, elderly and women drivers.

Problem solved.

The person who hit me was a man, and one who had apparently never learned skid control at that....just saying. :p

He was either asian, elderly, or had a sex change.

Good to hear you're ok. The beginning of winter always sucks for driving. People still thinking they can drive like it's summer.

I've smashed, rolled, banged up or totaled almost every car I've ever driven. A few of them were unrecognizable as once being an automobile.

You get used to it.

Thank goodness you are ok.

doesn't sound like much of an accident.. have you pissed anyone off recently? I'd trace back every step you've made in the last year or so

lolol....there were three other accidents on that curve within half an hour of mine - two on my side, one on the other. Just one of those days.

It looks like my car got fucked up worse than it looked from the outside, but I'll know what the insurance company has to say about it in a day or two. Gonna probably have to go car shopping soon.

Sorry you are in pain! I hope it is short lived and not something you will be feeling for yrs to come. I still have neck and knee pains. It sucks! Nothing a good chiropractor can't fix though.
