Got an interview tomorrow... need tips

I'm really shy and dont do well on interviews.
So if anyone can help me out with some general tips I'd appreciate it.

K for help

honestly, if you are shy, no tip can help you. you need to just bite the bullet and go all out. We can sit here and tell you to be personable and what to say, but nothing will help other than you just doing it. Have fucking fun man - people want to work with someone who is fun. Good luck.

Show up early. Plan to get there early, then leave earlier. Funny shit happens on the drive / train ride to interviews. Getting there extra early will give you time to relax.

Rehearse. Rehearse introducing yourself, shaking hands, and following your interviewer to an office.

Make sure you sit straight up in your chair. Don't drop your shoulders or lean forward; both look especially stupid to be seated across from.

Rehearse your answers to common interview questions. There are online resources for this, but typically

"greatest personal challenge"

"difficult situation with a co worker"

"how would you value a <whatever they do>"

"complex work problem"

etc etc

"tell me about yourself" and so on.

Be prepared to discuss briefly how you got to where you are.

practice eye contact when speaking to people. If this is not the norm, go out to dinner witha friend tonight, and look them in the eye for the whole time you speak to them.

good luck bor

Just have a couple shots or something that makes you loosen up (wink wink) before the interview.

This is also a really good tip.

I know.. I just had a couple myself and I really feel relaxed. Not that I can get any work done now.... I could be good for something, but I dont think it would be an interview

Thanks for your help everyone.

So I guess two shots of Rumplemintze and I'll get the job right ?

Nothing wrong with a stiff drink now and then. Had a few last weekend.

especially the question.

here are some non-technical tips.

1. dress the part. if its car salesman, casual suit and tie. if its blue collar work like a plant of factory, nice jeans with a nice button uo collared shirt tucked in. nice leather shoes. *DO NOT OVERDRESS ANY JOB THAT YOU ARE APLLYING FOR*
2. act the part. again if it is a sales job, be very energetic and offering alot of info. no jokes, no awkward looks. smile alot. vs. construction, plant or factory work, just be your ol' self. down to earth but not obnoxious about it. dont bubba it up too much.

acting the part is very important. in sales or proffessional position you will be answering to the big boss which is a little more sophisticated than bubba. so he wants someone on his level.

in the construction/plant/factory you will most likely be working with other bubbas and possibly reporting to bubba. they want someone that can get along on thier level.

when i shake hands i always give a slight nod as if i am really glad to meet them.

and zip up your pants too..

your not selling hot dogs.

Actually on my last interview, my pants were unzipped and I didnt notice until the middle of the interview.

I was being interviewed by 2 women, one behind a desk and the other was sitting right next to me.

nice... well good luck man!

no really, just go in there and be yourself. Let them know that you know what your talking about and convince them that you are the best person for the job. Get over the shyness and if you think that wont work, again have a couple shots before you go

Just remember that it's just a job and there are plenty of others out there. Make them understand that they need you more than you need them.

I tried that approach last time and I havent heard back.
I think I came off too nonchalant...especially with my zipper down. LOL

I think a couple shots'll do the trick, I'm very outgoing when I'm drinking.
