Going back to school-need suggestions

I got my associate's several years ago, I quit college due to circumstances in my life. Here's my dilemna. I don't know WTF to do. I'm 38 so I don't have time to waste. I have always had trouble making my mind up. How do you choose a career when there are thousands to choose from? Problem is I don't like anything.

For now I have narrowed it down between nursing, p.e. teacher, or business degree. My company would pay for the business degree but there arent' any jobs in my company I could use it for. I chose nursing because I know I would have job security and could work 3 12 hour shifts a week. No guarantee of getting accepted into the program once prerequisites are finished.
I would love to be an elementary p.e. teacher but I don't think there would be many job openings. I might not be able to find one. Business degree. Probably the easiest route. But, I'm afraid I couldn't get a job.

Hey come on mother fuckers, the clock is ticking and I'm getting older by the second.

dental hygene.

35$/hr to start. you work 4 days a week.

2 year program if you already have an associates and take a couple prerequisite classes (bio type stuff).

Thanks a lot for the suggestion and a good one for the right person. Those people earn that $35/hr, I don't think I could handle looking in people's nasty mouths all day and smelling their putred breath. Last time I checked, Dentist's had the highest rate of suicide among occupations.

hmmm im starting back school in january been out of highschool for about 3 years. this looks like somethin good to get into

DONT DO DENTAL HYGENE. I KNOW QUITE A FEW OF THEM. ALL GIRLS FOR ONE THING AND THEY MAX OUT AT AROUND 50K/YEAR.

I'D GO THE BUSINESS ROUTE. MORE OF A CHANCE TO GET A BETTER JOB. I'M GRADUATING IN FINANCE SOON BUT I'M NOT SURE WHAT TYPE OF STUFF YOU LIKE (I.E...ACCOUNTING, ECON, ETC.). I DIDNT THINK I WOULD LIKE FINANCE BUT I DO.

I'D ALSO LOVE TO BE A TEACHER BUT I'LL NVR MAKE SIX FIGURES DOING THAT.

Thanks for the input bro, I'm really struggling with this. I'd probably be good at accounting. I'm just afraid it will be too hard to get a job with a business degree. I will turn psycho if I do all that work and can't get a job. I was already turned down several years ago when I applied for nursing school. I had completed all the prereq's, in their pamphlet they gave the impression that was all you needed to do and you were in. They failed to inform you that there were only so many slots available. That's because they knew a lot of people wouldn't have tried and they would lose money. They are scum. Pure scum.

MOST NURSING SCHOOLS DO TURN YOU DOWN THE FIRST TIME. THEN THEY SEE IF YOU ARE GOING TO APPLY AGAIN AND START EXCEPTING THOSE APPLICANTS. PERSONALL, I HATE ACCOUNTING. I HAVE NO CLUE AS TO WHY I LIKE FINANCE BUT I DO.

IF I WERE YOU, I'D GO THE BUSINESS ROUTE. YOUR COMPANY WILL PAY FOR IT AND IMO A BUSINESS DEGREE OPENS MORE DOORS TO JOBS.

When you say How do you choose a career when there are thousands to choose from? Problem is I don't like anything. does that mean you just want a paycheck and not a career? You really gotta think about what you're going to do for the rest of your life unless you will be re-careering and re-training again. Pick something you can stand to do every single working day.

A business degree is versatile, teaching pays well, but it's better to be non-specialized so you can teach the general subjects unless you teach special education (which pays well and is always in high demand) so you can find jobs (if you are a PE teacher I think it gets harder since there's more competition), and nursing is always going to be in high demand. Physical therapy would be a good one, too.

Knowing what I know about you I think you will do well with a business degree because you're bright, but nursing or physical therapy would suit you well, too, because you'll be surrounded by women (patients, doctors, nurses, etc.) which would increase your dating opportunities. ;)

Good luck!

Thank you for the insight and compliment. Back at ya.

Yeah, thanks. There about as useless as tits on boar hog. The ones I've encountered anyway. They don't seem to know what's going on. I've asked them questions and they've looked at me with a blank stare. I think a lot of them have been told to push their agenda to increase sales.

Most people are going to school for the wrong reasons. How many business majors are out there? Too many count. How many of these people are happy with what they study? Not that many. The worst thing you can do is pursue a field of study that you are not interested in.

The key is to find something you really enjoy and run with it. Sometimes this requires trial and error with coursework.

I wish you luck my friend. You will find something that suits you.
