Coming back from Houston I came into Austin as they where having bad storms. This is not a made up story ( I swear on my family) as I approached 15 minutes outside of the Austin Airport there was talk of a new tornado warning. As I drove closer to the airport the tower announced a twister on the ground. The radio on am KLBJ the weather guy explained you'll know its near as you see the bright lightning ( as I have never seen) than the hail, than the winds so freaking blowing I could not see. All lights where off and here I am in pitch dark fearing for my life and praying. The tornado stayed put in the area for over 7 minutes not moving and the water piled up on the street I could not see. I never saw the funnel as it was way to windy, dark, hailing, and raining so I will never know how close to the funnel I really was but it was 1.5 miles long. I pulled off the rode and ran into the Holiday Inn by the airport where there was about 10 busses of young kids inside crying and fearing. The lights flickered and we sat inside for a while until it was gone. I have never knocked at heavens door but I will never forget the feeling of thinking my time was over.
