Fucking game is so intense its keeping me awake..

Ive played alot of computer games.. this is the first one to make me jump.. eerie fucking game.. design is superb.. turn the sound up the screams in the background of all the dying space marines is really freaky..

ya I know.. Im a nerd.

lol i'm truly impressed this time by carmack...

i mean, the man sells engines, I WASN'T EXPECTING A FULL BLOWN GAME!!? :p

HL2 is gonna blow this out of the water though *crosses fingers*

hell i didn't even download the leak

er actually... i did download the leak.... twice... just couldn't get myself to play it. HL2 must be played retail it's gonna rock!! (if it ever comes out)

It was only scary for me for about the first hour till i realized all that was making the game scary was enemies jumping out at you and going BOO, and after a while you should eventually get used to it.

Someone said in the recent game Thief 3, theres a stage called the cradle or something that's truly scarier than Doom3, and does it by being actually scary and not utilizing cheap BOO scares.

Doom really must be the bomb, because I have heard at least 2 dozen people say that they have a hard time going to sleep after playing it.
Don;t listen to them. You seem like an intelligent guy. It won't bother your sleep. Only thing that affected me really was when I was falling asleep, I'd see random doom level patterns, which happens after playing any FPS for a long period of time.

The game honestly gets tedious towards the end. Long levels, same shit over and over. The only thing revolutionary about the game is the graphics, the presentation was well done, good level design....Trust me the fear factor isn;t all it's cracked up to be and that;s half the draw of the game, other half being graphics.

Multiplayer is a huge letdown for now until it's added to either through patches or community mods.

yes, the fear doesn't really get you, or will end up not working, because of two reasons:

1) you are seasoned in FPS games
2) you've spent a few hours play doom 3

this is because you see all the cheap scare tactics... just spawning a creature and having pop out behind you always, in the dark.

you realize this when you try to clear out a room ahead you know is filled with enemies with 10 grenades then still end up having them pop out, and also you get this when you see the same situtations and hear the same screams over and over :p

I'll have to check the reviews out; hopefully it will run smoothly on my computer.

where did this hl2 leak come from? anyone wanna point me in the right direction?

jesus you guys gotta stop spending so much time building worthless muscle and start playing some video games! :artist:

what kinda horsepower does D3 take?

I have a AthlonXP 1800+ with 512MB RAM and a Geforce Ti4200 at home that runs it adequately. In my office I run an AthlonXP 2800+ with 512MB RAM and a Geforce FX 5950 that runs it very very well. I would suggest 1 gig of RAM to play it, though, because 512 causes me to have occasional slowdowns. :)

wow.. i have a 1.3 ghz duron, 96 mb ram, 10 gig hard drive, geforce 2 mx... so im shit out of luck.
omg kudos to you for having a sack big enough to post the specs to that embarrassment of a system.

its actually NOT as bad as it sounds... i can run serious sam :D

I shit myself playing doom3 even when i have the light on :worried: sux i know! I am running it on a: AMD 3ghz. 9800pro and 512 ddr

depends what card you have, all ati cards have trouble with running the game so they brought out the catalyst 4.9 drivers released mainly for doom 3 users experiencing problems. nvidia people are fine and also doom 3 have a deal running with the graphics card companies because they have used a very cheeky way of loading the textures ingame, they have put them into zip files in your directories causing the game to run slower and causeing your system (mainly gfx card) to appear weaker.

oh and btw... if you want your doom3 to run 50% better heres the method to increase your system performance ingame:

1. Goto your doom3/base directory and you will see several zip files starting with the name "pak" e.g pak001.zip

2. Extract all of the contents of these zip files into the base directory and if it asks you to replace anything just click YES.

3. After extracting all of the folder and files out of the zip files you MUST delete the zip files.

9800pro would run really sweet on my machine, I have your same specs, but 1G of ddr ram (400MGz).

I was looking at the 9800pro at compusa about a week ago ($299), when I bought the game, but then saw the x800 SWEET! but I can't afford either right now :(

Your completely nuts!!! LOL

BTW I fo8und that kicking the resolution UP to 1024x768 INCREASED peformance.

I have a 1.3 GHz Duron and a Nvidia Quadro 750 XGL, 512 MB and its completely playable at 1024.

Actually try decreasing resolution but turning up detail to ultra. I found increasing resolution made it worse.

increasing the resolution is increasing the pixels so yer that would make it worse, i use doom3 on the 1024 res and medium detail, the ULTRA detail is really made for the 256mb graphics cards.

Actually Ultra detail is made/optimized for 512MB video cards. High is made/optimized for 256MB video cards and is almost exactly the same. The different detail modes are mostly for texture compression options. Ultra has like no compression so you get the highest detail available. High has almost no compression but the type of compression it uses results of very little loss in quality. Also these option affect the anisotropic filtering 4x, 8x, etc. but all of these option can be individualized in your personal gameconfig.cfg file (or whatever it is called). At work I'm getting 60fps @ high detail quality on a GeForce FX 5900XT overclocked.
