Goals and targets

Hi all, been reading this forum for a good while now.. got a little question regarding personal goals and targets.

Ive been training properly coming up to a year now, my goals have always to increase what im lifting on any exercise.

So basically my question is.. say for instance on the bench i have a goal of 140KGs for 8 reps or whatever, once i reach this if i dont want to continue getting stronger and stick to this weight, will my rep range with that weight continue increasing, and eventually be able to do say 20 reps? And it become more of a toning exercise?

Bit of a strange question possibly but it's something i haven't tried yet in training.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Why would you not want to continue getting stronger? Higher reps doesn't mean it's a toning exercise. You tone with your diet.

Maybe he thinks getting stronger will always mean getting bigger and that he will be happy with the said size when he presses 140 kgs. If such is the case, you can get stronger without gaining weight, although it would be a slower progression if I'm not wrong.
This has something to do with neural efficiency, and there are far more qualified people than me to explain it.
Otherwise, I truly cannot imagine why someone wouldn't want to be stronger.

edit: spelling

You hit the nail on the head there mate, that's what i mean about size.

Maybe you cannot imagine someone wanting to get stronger but everyone has there own prerogative in the gym surely.

It was only a question..

Of course, no disrespect intended.

I'll be you anything in the world that once you get to your goal of benching 140kilos for 8 reps, that you will change your mind, and want to get 160kilos for 8 reps....

You nailed it.

veng, like Illuminati said, you'll likely set new goals once you reach your old ones. Also, looking at the wording of your original post, if you're benching what used to be your 8-rep max for 20 reps, you're stronger. You're developing different capacities/energy systems in different rep ranges, but you're still stronger in the latter case by nearly any definition of the word.
