Girlfriend says...

:)

My girlfriend is learning the right things to say...

"Clint, you look bigger...you feel bigger and harder too..."
Ok Spatts...go ahead...I don't mind the comment...lol...

When on holidays a month ago I got a classic...

"You look like you've got a lot bigger recently..."

That was all well and good, until a few seconds later...

"Is it muscle or fat?"

:D

(It has been a bit of both ;))

My girlfriend complains that my thighs are getting too big so she cant “straddle” me when its girl on top… :)

"holy shit honey, your traps are up to your ears omg your neck is gone too....

lil J ia good in that way for me too. When I went to down to compete in Kentucky she kept telling me how skinny I was. (bc I was) Now that I am no longer dieting and I am eating to grow she hs made the right comments. Makes a man feel good every once in a while. :)

The best is after finish a set of ME box squats my wife says, 'You're legs look huge.'

I think I put on 10 more lbs after that.
...chad...

My wife mentioned yesterday that there was a lot more of me... not sure if she was talking about the muscle gain or fat gain though :) I guess I've put on about 20 pounds since beginning of May.

someone told me just the other day that i look like i've gotten alot bigger but still lost weight at the same time. "like all the weight moved up to my chest and shoulders"lol. that feels pretty good especially when you cant really tell your gettin bigger.

best comment I have ever recieved was from two girls who didn't think I had heard them. I walked by them at the gym and heard one whisper to the other "oh my god that guy is nasty huge". I was 240 then wonder what they would think now that I am 296.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Scots- How long ago was that?

I just weighed in at 258 the other day... though the wife likes my size, I got to be careful cause the wife does not like being "squished"

I think about three and a half years ago or so. I didn't top 250 til I was 23 then hit 290 by 24 then I lost down to 265 partially because of being very sick for about three weeks. Now I haven't been under 280 in about 14 months or so.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Nice Bro- I am on the way to 275 myself... very excited about the possibility, though I will see what my wife says when I get there....

oh yeah...it's not even a conscious reaction

I don't understand how people could not do this.

I hate it when people comment on it too. They think it is because I don't want them to feel how soft it might be if it was relaxed but the truth is that I am so paranoid I always think I am going to be attacked.

i always love this one:

"hey Vance are you gonna try and be in Terminator 4 since arnolds getting old????"

....................... uh.....................................no........................

but thanks for the compliment, i think.

I just feel like ranting for a minute...

I remember being out running one day. I had been running with a junior hockey player and was so tired I was dragging my feet and could barely move anymore. I was running by these three girls and they started taunting me with "hey, fatty". At the time I was wearing my baggy grey sweats and sweating like a firehose and I guess I looked overweight shuffling along like that.

I also was 5'10" with a 28" waist and 185 pounds at the time. Still just a kid. So I took off my sweatshit and gave them the finger.

That was the day I realized just how cruel people are to fat people. I assume its the same for short, tall, and skinny too.
What's up with that? So much of body type is genetic. Lots of my friends are far superior athletes to me but look overweight and now that I'm over 200lbs I still look ok but most of the lifters I know at 150 are much stronger than me. Why do people make so many goofy assumptions about the packaging..

I feel much better now. :)

I have respect for the guys who are just regular built guys or sometimes really weak looking or real short and flabby who go to the gym and they work out admist the big dudes in the free weights section away from the comfort of the machines (machines being used primarily by not so big guys). I know that I feel conspicuous walking into the free weights section even though I am probably average size for the people there but by no means a big guy.

Guess I might be to self concious for my own good, but I still figure it must take some balls for some people to start lifting and keep at it when surrounded by large dudes. I try and be real polite whenever i speak to anyone who i feel looks new and try and smile and be friendly.

I remember before I started lifting being joked at for being skinny, it didn't bother me as I was fine with how I was but regardless it shouldn't have happened. I agree with robertfontaine some people are too cruel to others due to their body shape.

ps sorry for digressing from whatever topic the thread was about.

Im only 205 ...well 208 now ...hehe, at 5"10 Im not really heavy but I got an ok build, I look bigger then I weigh, I think

I see guys like this too, Like the guy at my gym, he's only 175 but looks as big as I do.

Yeah I know what you mean, I'm 400 during the season and 360-370 in the off season, when I go to the store most women scream in fear and run the other way, well so do most men for that matter...

The only way to be one of the big guys is to suck it up and train amongst them, and within a few years you're the one peope are intimidated by. I started in a high school weightroom at age 13. I was intimidated by a kid benching with a plate on each end of the bar. This was a good post, it is important to make newer guys and girls feel welcome. That skinny teenager could be the next Ed Coan, the overweight 12 year old could be the next Anthony Clark.

BBBD29 is right on... all you guys that feel small, get out there with the big guys, it is the best way to learn... most of the big guys probably were the small ones at some point, and most of the guys I know will help someone out/give a spot/etc without question if they are serious and trying hard....

besides, being naturally skinny is not so bad... after many years you will be much bigger and still be able to keep decent abs without trying...

does anyone else automatically flex a given bodypart that is touched at any given time??

I used to, but quit that after I got out of my teen years, as it occured to me how goofy that was. Actually, it did not occur to me, my Dad ragged me incessently about it, and informed me of how goofy it was, which led me to stopping this practice.

Actually I had several comments along the lines of this thread last Saturday night. We went out after a strongman event for some drinks, and I got there after everyone else, and sat down next to a buddy's wife, as it was only seat in the house and proceeded over the next hour or so to hear the following:

1. From Kim (buddies wife) - "Wow, I am not used to sitting next to this much man"
2. From some other chick there - "So, whatcha drinking there big fella?" (screwdriver)
3. From some guy there - "what's the deal with all you big guys not drinking beer?"
4. From George (a freind) - "what are they going to do to us?, we got BM, Sean and Brad here"

It is funny, cause I don't go out with a bunch of people that much. And I forget how freakish we are to non-athletes. My training partner and I, both have state powerlifting records, we have a guy in our gym who is 2nd or 3rd in the world in highland games, another who just won Oklahoma's Strongest Man contest, and when I am in this crowd, I am just another guy.

But take anyone who is serious and put them in a public place around some mortals and we stick out like a sore thumb, apparently. Just a fun Saturday night. I am five eight and 240, but in my mind, I am still 18 years old and five eight and a hundred and 155, so comments like the above still weird me out.

It's strange, I had someone call me "big guy" the other day, I looked over my shoulder to see who he was actually speaking to before realising it was me.

I've had other similar occurences as just as was said above I still fully believe that I am 160lbs and fairly thin, I honestly cannot see the change despite a 40lb difference. Maybe after another 40lbs of LBM I might be able to see some discernable change, but going from others posts I doubt it :fro:

Ahh yes... the one thing we all consistantly agree on - we all have reverse anorexia....

Thought I'd resurrect this rather than start a new thread.

A couple of days ago she told me that I'm not aloud to diet... lolol... I love her :D

Glad someone agrees...just tryin to be mentor-like. Face down, ass up and then it doesn't matter how big your legs are. Best test of hip strength I can think of....and wider is of course better.

Fulfilling your title of "Elite Mentor" with much class :) You should be proud though... I did dimels on Saturday and today has been full of much AR work.

:lmao:

"God, I hate you Kenny!"

No AR for me...but just to take my mentor status one step further. Dimels are good, but don't forget your Kneeling Squats and Pull Throughs. Your SO will love you for it, if she doesn't grind her teeth down to nothing. No Pain No Gain.

My girls always saying those feel bigger when grabbing my pecs and arms. She still makes fun of my little calves though, that always sucks.
