There's this rapper song where this rapper calls out all the womens names he wants to fuck. should be a good source.

Sounds more like any 'ethnic' name is not something people are comfortable with. Fits in well with the 'assimilation' rather than integration culture.

Resistance is futile.
 
Martin Luther King jr. is like one of the main men amongst blacks and he'd never call his child Shaniqua or any of that crap. It's the TRASH blacks who give these names. Its not about them being black, but being black trash.

Uh no. That may be the case with some but for many, it is an attempt to be more ethnic and culturally diverse. Names such as Shaniqua (although the spelling is not correct) actually have Arabic leanings, meaning muslim, meaning a problem for Americans. My childrens names are Shareef and Saira, both good Arabic names and far from 'ghetto' or ghetto trash.

Also, if you want to talk about 'ghetto' or trash names, it is certainly not restricted to blacks. Any white movie star in Hollywood having a baby these days for instance, have you seen some of those beauties? How about the classic Southern names like Billy-Bob and Mary-Beth and Billy-Ray? Anything hyphenated is pretty trashy too right?

Pretty ignorant statement here, did not expect this from you, many names associated with the black community are heritage and geographicaly related, some may go overboard and may have been made up but the majority of them hold sentimental value that are derived from their roots, like most names. peace

I thought I was the only one here concerned w/ that statement...very narrow-minded.

And MANY people name their kids b/c they think it's a cool name - that goes for all races... this "white" girl I know at work, she named her child Diamante - yeah after the car! Granted it means "diamond" in spanish, but the poor child gets called MitsuBITCHI at school!! :worried:
 
Im pretty damn ignorant about black culture and heritage and whatnot. I know some stuff about indonesian and maroccan and surinam culture but yeah I don't know what any of these names mean.

I just have the personal experience that people with these names are bleh.

That's because it's all you see on American TV. They're not going to show you a successful, intelligent person with a very ethnic name, they're going to show you some black/latin lady that is obviously not well educated and probably has curlers in her hair or something.

Perpetuates the stereotype.

not the media. school. sports clubs. gym.
 
no. but black europeans. and not necessarily my school i just graduated from a christian school and we had maybe 1% blacks.

school next door has a lot of them. They wear hiphop clothing gang around corners and yell these names at each other
