Gh is not something that is "like steroids" - its not an option between the two - they are completely different things and should be used for the particular goals you have in mind.
AAS - definitely for faster recovery, promotion of lean muscle mass, sense of well-being (which I want to say but need to research more... can also be related to a change in progesterone levels not just test levels), possibly more aggression, etc.
GH - growth hormone - this is what is produced by your hypothalmus and studies show the size of this gland reduces (as does GH production) as you age. Therefore all those aspects of youth - smooth skin, sense of wellbeing, faster healing, less tendency towards fat depositing, stronger hair / nails, etc. tend to start to decrease as your natural GH levels decrease. If used by itself, the goal is to get your GH levels back to optimum levels (not gigantic levels) to "bring you back to youth". It promotes healing .. interesting aspect coudl be joint healing, and general great things as you get older. In this case "more" is not better and the dose needs to be small and regular over a longer period of time. You won't grow lots of muscle mass on GH by itself. GH seems to have a tendency to be 'carb sensitive' so you need to keep your carb meals down - I don't think GH should be seen as a "fat loss strategy" - still just an overall supplement to better "health" supporting a tight diet & training program, with more support for the older, more beat up of the 'health community'.
GH promotes cells -- a caveat is to make sure you don't have any tumors that could also grow while on it.
GH coupled w/ AAS is a popular approach for competition and other performance enhancement goals.
