Getting x-rays from your doctor?

How hard is it to get them to give you the x-rays when you are changing doctors? I was asked by my new orthopedic Dr. to get my MRI and x-rays from my old doctor and bring them by his office. Someone at work said that most doctors won't give them to you.

Actually the facility that takes them owns the film / data generally...

You can, for no cost, pick them up there and bring them to the new Dr. to view, and then return them.

Or for a few $, they will make a copy that you can keep.

Been here, and I just checked them out for a week...
That all the new Dr. wants anyway is to see them when you go in for your appt...
A radiologist has already looked at them and made notes as to what she/he thinks. You should get a copy of those notes as well...

They are your records. They get asked this question all the time so don't be afraid to make a fuss if they are uncooperative about giving them to you. :)

I'm still stunned. They gave them to me without saying anything.

YAY!!!

I don't have to see that quack doctor again.:D

of course

its your personal data in a sense :)

I thought that they would simply forward to them the new doctor. It's nice to hear that they gave them to you instead. I know you can ask doctors to send your records to other doctors. Glad to hear you didn't have problems hun.
