To sweeten the deal, how about using any of the following for weightloss:
alpha melanocyte stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH)
Cocaine and Amphetamine Relgulated Transcript (CART)
For the obese, leptin only works if the body doesn't initially produce leptin. However, consider the bodybuilder who wants to loose fat/decrease food cravings. If the fat is decreasing then theoretically so is leptin. Therefore, as fat is lost, supplementing with leptin might keep the fat off.
The downside is the person may become leptin dependant to maintain the fat loss (i.e. once the exogenous leptin is removed, the appetite returns along with the fat). The other downside is that leptin is a protien and thus is administered through injection.
