Getting BIG vs. getting LEAN

Unless I'm getting ready for a show, I can never decide if I want to eat clean and cut carbs at night or just eat massive amounts of MOSTLY quality food and shakes--I'm back and forth right now and I can't choose one--one day I'll eat perfect and the next day I go fucking ape-shit and eat everything in sight (I get in 400 grams of protein no matter what)-same bullshit happens with cardio too--does this happen to you too?

Unless I am dieting for a show I have the same problems bro, we all do im sure. But usually i will end up eating really clean and I try to stay lean year round, it makes it easier before a show, although you have to put on some BF to gain mass, learn your body and then you will know how to take it just to the edge of mass gain before too much fat gain and youll find your happy place;)

What are your stats again? Thought I remembered you posting a few weeks ago that you were like 280 and lean. Haven't seen any pics though.

I would take being lean with abs showing as much more better than being big and fat.
Thats why I try to stay lean all year.

Exactly! Fat face, fat ass, fat gut, is NOT attractive. The whole purpose to training, unless a powerlifter or a tarty lank machine, is to improve ourselves, and look good.

1. Common sense

2. Completely logical.

3. No worries about tossing the shirt off when you least expect it.

AMEN!!!

World class BB'ers put on a ton of weight in the off season and even have noticeable guts. If you're doing this for competition and you want to keep getting bigger, then you have to bulk and put up with the extra fat during the winter months.

If you're on this site simply because you want to look good and you're happy with your mass, then keep your abs year-round.

I don't think a lot of the top guys get as big as people think. They are not shredded, but most probably don't go over 12% bodyfat in the offseason.
