1 - Board is WAY frickin too slow - even for platinum - I shudder to think what our non-plats are going thru

2 - The pull-down fourm chage thingie has GOT to come back

12 pm here and the board was runnin pretty damn slow....tried hitting the reply button on a thread and 30 seconds went by on my cable connection and i said fuck it.
 
Thingie is Tech lingo for watch-a-ma-doo-hickie.
 
I third the replies . . . and where in the hell is all of our post that we lost ? I'm down almost 1600 post.
 
I don't care about the post count - and I figured the drop down board locator thing was removed to reduce either database query, PHP processing, or just raw data sent.
but yeah, it is a pain in the ass to not have it to navigate.

I wouldn't normally complain - but since I'm paying - this is more annoying than FreakShow on a date.

Well . . . the post count won't exactly "kill" me. I'd like to have them back though. But the thought of Freakshow on a date is a bit creepy, especially since he's had a very long and successful run as president of the Boy George international fan club.

the response time is beyond slow.................it's damn irritating!!!! my old web tv was faster than this.........i'm going to boil a 3 minute egg while this is flushing thru the system............
 
anyone that was plat lost their posts from the day they were plat on - if you were never plat (like smalls), then you didn't lose posts. (this is what I see).
also, I have the features of plat - but the site asks me to join plat and seems to have forgotten in parts that I am.

no matter what, I don't care, I just get annoyed at slow pages.
something is way off here.

(and again, I will say, I couldn't give two shits about the post count for me, but I know that some care about it and the stars - and those are different since the change)

1) those wodin squats look hard. with the weight and the ball and the squatting and all. I think the HS squats are easier. they involve hot sauce and a toilet. the end result still leaves a numbed burning sensation in your ass.

2) the olsen twins are hot. I'd stick all kinds of shit in them.

In the business section today it said the Olsen twins are both worht $150 million and that their merchandising and entertainment empire should gross $1 BILLION in sales

In the time it takes for this to post they will have made approxiamtely $125K

These boards are just messed up now! What's the use of having new features on the boards if it takes 3 to 5 minutes to post a reply to a thread. The old board was fine and faster(at least a little bit faster). Platinum isn't where it is at, right now! Something has got to give here because like Corn said, "this is ridiculous."

I didn't know that platinum members were experiencing the slow speeds. I thought it was a plot against the regular members as to "encourage" them to upgrade to platinum with the "turbo code" to speed up the boards. Either that or it was an elaborate shceme by the Draconians in alliance with the mole people in an attempt to suppress knowledge pertaining to bettering one's physique and expressing free thought.
 
Seems to be a mid afternoon - PM thing.

AM the board runs fine, Pm it sucks donkey ass through a straw.
 
Apache can handle over 1000 concurrent users, so the issue isn't directly the web server (I say not directly because were it only serving up static pages, then that would be easy for it - but these pages are dynamically generated via php).

with the PHP - it would be nice to know if it is the Apache optimized version that is compiled in with it so that it maximizes the speed and lowers the number of processes spawned from it.

in the past, I was just assuming that the Apache has the PHP compiled into it - but now I question that.

also - php is lightning fast when pulling shit from the database and when it isn't doing much - but once it gets too complicatted, then it gets MUCH MUCH slower.

I'm guessing it is a combo of all of this.

ALSO - I would want to know what the max concurrent users is set to in the Apache config - it has to have a high end in order to work, so what is it set to - this could be the issue as well.

Y_Lifter - Win2K will still play games. Did you upgrade over an existing system, leaving the software still there, or did you wipe it clean and reinstall?

if it was the first one, then the game was likely storing data (temp data probably) from a certain folder that is no longer there. the way Win98 and Win2K store user data are different in directory structure.

you might be able to uninstall and reinstall the game and have it work again (although you would lose any saved games that you don't back up - and even if you did, I'm not sure they would work)
 
New Machine(hand me down) with a supposed fresh install of Win2k. Went to re-install the games and Active X was not there...

I'm also thinking driver or the Active X install.

I re-installed several times and it is more than just one game having the issue.
What's really weird is the the basic game works OK but when you install the Advanced Upgrade Pkg of the game it Shits the Bed...

I think I'll try all the basics since I got the machine Pre Loaded and am not comfortable with what's on it or not.

Update Video Driver's and Active X and see if the Vendor has a clue..

oh - I think you mean DirectX - ActiveX is more of a web thing usually.
DirectX is the set of dlls that allows it to talk to the network, the graphics card, and the soundcard - usually for games.
the newest version is 8.something - but that might be XP only.

that is the directX homepage - or you could likely go to the Windows Update in the start menu and that will look to see what on your computer it can update.

Is the process that runs EF platinum chat using the same processing power as the database? I wonder if platinum chat were shut down if the server would run any faster. I'd make that sacrifice.

In my experience, if a system runs well after reboot but slows down later in the day,
indicates a memory leak.
