because of sweating like a polish farm animal, i have to wear an undershirt most of the year....but do not like the look of a white t-shirt poking up over the top.

a black or grey wife beater works well for me....told it looks good when the outside shirt comes off also!!! :)

If you don't like the poking up, get a V-neck.

I, too, need an undershirt but often don't wear one.

no,I think it looks horrible and always bug my one buddy who sees the need to wear a white t under his button ups

the guy has the fashion sense of mr rogers, even went to a club in a cardigan

I hate wearing one, but I do a lot of the time because I sweat like a fucking monkey. Anything I can do to stop sweating so much? It's definitely gotten much worse since I started packing on more muscle.

sweating a shit load ruined soo many T-shirts/Shirts for me
Either they get yellow under the armpits or
I put a shitload of antipersperant and those fucking armpits get white.

I admit it, I'm guilty of this fashion faux-pas. I did it once 2 weeks ago when I went to the bar with a few guys and girls. I threw on a nice button down (black with a few other darker colors coming down in vertical lines) and put a white t shirt under it. It didn't look too bad, but Im not doing it again.

If I wear a shirt under my button down, it will be a color shirt to accompany the button down.

Oh, no! No! No! No! You need help, Darling! This is the deodorant for you: http://www.thecrystal.com/ It is the only thing I use: I buy the big rock that you wet in water and slide under your arms. No white anti-perspirants, Darling!

I do sometimes, depends if the undershirt is nice quality. I have used those deodorant rocks before and they do work.

i never wear undershirts.... don't sweat that much though

I know a guy that doesn't wear undershirts. IT IS SO DAMN HOT!!!!!! As long you have the body to warrant it.

I wear a tank top under all my shirts...
I think its pretty nasty not wearing anything underneath...
You never want to sweat your shirt up...

Agreed, I always try to wear an undershirt under a my nice cotton shirts, especially if they're white buttondowns, an undershirt makes the color look better.

When going out never wear - for work or etc always wear

NOTE - all the extra antiperspipant( sp) is really bad for your body - Causes all kinda of conditions

everyone is concerned with sweating,I find adding more layers I sweat through both ,where if I wear no undershirt I dont sweat enough to go through clothes

the other night i went out wearing one of my favorite dress shirts and it was so damn cold it rubbed the skin of my nips lol. The whole night i was in agony cause the material is a ruffer type and everytime i'd move im like ahhh.

If I had nice upper pecs to show off then I wouldn't wear an undershirt regardless of the color - white, gray or black.

It'd just be nice pecs on display - best accessory for us men.

But not that I have a well developed upper pecs, so yes if I'm cold I do wear and prefer a white undershirt... (still working on the upper pecs - my weakest part, sigh)

only in when it's cold for added insulation
though I'm in alabama and frequently have to wear dark suits outside for long periods in high heat, which is often humid as hell too
and I often soak through a dress shirt entirely
my sweat is stain free
hell I like the sauna effect

For the people that have bad sweating problems, there is actually prescription anti perspirant that your family doctor can get you to fix that problem.

cydex01

in the summer i dont worry about it but at school i wear one since im running around between classes, no ac half the time so i sweat a fair bit

This is a real hot issue. I've heard stylish guys claim both sides here, all very certain of themselves.

I wear it, amongst other reasons, so the shirt can be worn longer before it needs a wash

#1 if your going out clubbing no need for an undershirt, so show some skin just make sure your at least somewhat tanned
#2 if its more formal wear a colored undershirt that complements your button down, or use black cause it goes with damn near everything except brown of course.

just the opposite for me, slat............the hotter it gets, the more undershirts i wear.

i sweat like a polish farm animal and an undershirt helps to slow down the perspiration spots from coming thru.

I'm so happy - many responses to my thread - and everybody has such sense of fashion. Just darling!

Yep, in my white tee, yep....but I never let it show. A tees or v-necks w/ button ups. Never let `em see you sweat....

i wear no shirt, but i am baby smooth so it looks ok. but i you have a hairy chest it looks to grease monkey wappish

Please men, don't wear the white shirt poking out. It looks like an accountant -- not exactly sexy. No offense to any accountants in here. Get the deodorant crystal mentioned earlier. It is all natural and doesn't have the harmful chemicals of most deodorants.

Going out, no. With tie yes, but it's not just some ratty T either.

Whiskey

every day - 1 - it keeps me from sweating up my good buttondowns - 2 no deoderant stains - and less dry cleaning - I have like 20 of them.... ;)

Same here... as long as the white tee is newer, soft, and bright white, then what's the problem? Looks fine imo...
The only white undershirts I think look dumb are the semi-see thru ones. I like FOTL.. nice n thick cotton.
The key is just that you buy new white undershirts often (and at 3/$10 you have no excuse not to).
They save your shirts, and you don't have to wash the polo/button down every time and fade it either.
Sure beats pit stains or being able to see your nipples thru a shirt like you can on some guys rofl.

For the clubs, I usually go with an nice high quality tank top (A/X or 2xist) under a vert-striped button down. V-neck undershirts just look so damn stupid when you take off the button down... I can't stand em.

It was pretty cool to wear a t-shirt showing underneath your button down or polo back in high school.

If you must wear something underneath because you get chaffed nipples (hehehe) or sweat then wear a wife beater or v-neck.

Otherwise it's just not attractive.

V-neck shows too much chest hair.

i hate a t showing on a button down. i do wear tees but have crews for buttons and regulars for others.

If the tshirt is showing, it needs to be a good quality one, not an "underwear-grade" white tshirt. It should be one you could wear without the button-down shirt over it.

Depends on the overall look imo. If you wear some coat over your button down, dont use a tee.
If you go straight button down look at the shirt. If the shirt is a bit bright, you can go with a colored matching tee.
If the shirt is dark colored i wouldnt wear a tee, just open another button.

yup, agree with all those points; plus, it looks preppy..sexy.

I hear a light (think heather) gray tee underneath won't show through a button down. I've never tried it myself, but I've heard it works. If not, just get a thicker shirt (oxford cloth) and wear an undershirt anyway. There's no harm in wanting to be hygenic.

I think a white t under a button up looks just silly

A nice T under a blazer is trendy but def not under a button up

I only do if its a white or black shirt. I prefer a second skin or under armor shirt of the same color as the buttoned up shirt.

Sometimes in the winter when it is colder I wear a v-neck white t, but typically I wear an A-shirt under by button down shirts. (wife beater)

The correct answer is:

You wear one 3ecause otherwise, you will either sweat through OR your antipersperent will destroy the nice, $250 dress shirt.

However, you wear a V-neck undershirt so it DOESNT show.

Case closed.

why does this thread never die? it has been popping up on my subscribed thread list for 2 years

'Cause it's a poll, and every time someone votes, it pops up on the Subscribed Threads list.

Oh, and I'm wearing a white tshirt under a button-down shirt right now.

depends on the shirt, but always wear an undershirt...keeps me from jackin up the pits on clothes from that weird deodorant build up. Also absorbs sweat...
