Genetics Question

Hey guys and gals,

I have a question, We all know that Body building has a lot to do with genetics. Is there anyway to tell (without years of lifting) whether or not a person has good genetics and is able to put on size. The reason I ask is that, My training partner started working out 2 years ago. When he started he weighed in at around 180 lbs. 2 years later (completely natural, believe me I know) he's weighing in at 240lbs at about 10%bf. Now that's damn good genetics if you ask me. For me though, when I first started 1 month ago I weighed 180lbs at 21%bf and now I'm up to 190lbs at about 18%bf. My max bench has gone from 185-225 (i know I'm a scrawny weakling, but we all gotta start somewhere). Also I've gotten 1/2 inch on almost all body parts (bi's, chest, quads, etc. Basically I'm trying to find out if I have decent genetics, cause I also know that in the beginning you always see great gains. Again is there anyway to tell if you have good genetics or a good "base" to work with?

Thanks

Look at your parents and siblings. For example, you can tell my wife has awesome genetics as all of her brothers are just shredded and only one actually works out. They get it from their mom's side who's very lean. Ask your dad if he ever worked out and how easy/hard it was to build muscle.

Bro,

Why worry about it. You are just setting yourself up for excuses and failure. All things not being equal some people have to work at it harder than others. That the way it is with anything in life.

one thing to look at is your structure, if you got small waist wide shoulders, small joints, round muscle bellies; those are all traits of good genetics. steroids will make just about anyone grow, but if you have a shitty frame, what good is it? second, everyone reacts different to different diets and drugs that is very individual and the only way to find out how good your genetics are in that respect is through experience. then there is this 1% of guyz that will grow and look ripped while eating burgers and candy along with putting a half ass effort in the gym, those my friend are genetic freaks
