I just got back from a cruise on the Carnival Elation. They didn't have metal detectors. They have an xray that they send your bags through and that's it. Put in in your pockets and you'll be fine.

I have been on Carnival and Royal Carribean. On neither cruise did they use metal detectors. On the carnival they had what appeared to be a metal detector (the arch thing you walk through), but there is no way it was on or working... I walked through with a few metalic objects on me..

Correct. The only thing you would need to worry about is when you get off of the ship in the U.S. I saw customs agents searching random teenager's and young adult's bags. I had my family with me (small children included) and they didn't even look at us twice.

are you talking about going on float or on a civilian cruise??
