Gaining weight while cutting

Hey guys. Current stats 195lbs, 5' 10"

I'm trying to cut some body fat so I've decided to start cutting. I'm on an approx 2000 cal a day diet. Foods consist of chicken, lean beef, fish, complex carbs, veggies, etc. I'm pretty sure the foods I'm eating are ok.

I've been on this for a little over a week now and I've put on a couple pounds. Is this normal? I'm guessing my body is freaking out and thinking it's starving so it's holding on to what it's got, but I never thought I would see weight increase.

Should I stick with what I'm doing and ride it out, or could it be something else? Too many cals, too little cals?

Thanks

Me and you are about the same, last time I checked I'm 197 though. I'm gettin 2167 cals. No carbs though. Don't weigh yourself. Measurements and the mirror should be your guide. You could be putting on muscle and muscle weighs more than fat, it could also be water. Increase your water intake if you haven't done so already. Don't let the scale fool you. If you're training hard and eating right you should see results.
