for as long as i can remember, i have trainied for a specific look, be it bigger or leaner. Recently i have started training up for my special forces selection and i decided to train specifically for performance ie, to get stronger, faster and fitter. My routine did include weights, but only in circuit training or extremely high reps [muscular endurance]. I was doing hour and a half cardio routines include running, cycling and rowing, as well as sprint routines. Their was also high intensity body weight training [pushups chins abs] .All in i achieved my goals of getting stronger, fitter and faster but to my suprise i also got bigger by about 4 kgs [over 8 lbs]. Any ideas or theories as to why this could be. I was sure that amount and type of training would have ripped me up hardcore.

have you ever trained high reps before? if you dont normally, my guess is because your slow twitch fibers were underveloped compared to your fast?

You found a routine that works well for you, congrats. Some people train a certain way and it may not be the best way for them to gain weight/put on muscle, but you obviously found a routine that is good for your body.

could just be the changes in your lifting style. usually when i first change to a new style, i see a significant change right off the bat. usually resulting in a good gain in muscle mass.

i disagree with ripstone. i forgot who said it but "everything works. nothing works for long". I'm sure you'll slowly stop putting on the pounds if you continue training for endurance.

All I am saying is that he found a routine that is working for him right now. That doesnt mean its always gonna work well for him, I never said that. I think you are correcnt in saying ""everything works. nothing works for long"...very true statment. A lot of times if you start a new style of training you think you have found lifting nirvana, but then after a month or two you start to realize that its just another progam...thats not always the case cus there are good ways to lift and some not so good ways to lift but I think you see what I am saying.

cool, i was kind of under the impression you meant "this kind of lifting is for you, keep lifting this way". i feel you
