so whats up with this robert fritz dude?

what kinda style does he play?

Robert Fripp. He's fucking awesome, but doesn't play the same kinda shit that Satch or Vai plays. He does a lot of sick arpeggios and stuff though. I think he's going to play a lot of soundscapes on the G3 tour though, which isn't anything shredder-esque at all. I could be wrong though.

He plays with King Crimson and plays lots of difficult stuff, but still not really shredder stuff. Download FraKctured by King Crimson and you'll hear some fast guitar work by him.
 
They should have Steve Lukather play in G3. Not only he's fucking fast but he can play every style there is, and well.
 
I went to it back in 96 or 97. A friend and I were going down to a Best Buy where they were signing autographs before the show. On the way down, I rear ended a car and totally fucked up my front end. We ended up pushing my car behind a karate dojo where my friend knew the instructors then proceeded to have another friend pick us up and go to the show. It featured Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Robert Fripp, and Kenny Wayne Shepard. Robert fripp was horrible and boring. We thought he was some roadie warming up the guitars until someone told us who it was. Kenny wayne shepard was really cool. The guy sounded just like Hendrix when covered some of his songs. Satriani and Vai were of course godlike.
 
Yeah I don't really understand why Satch invited Fripp on this tour. He does mostly soundscapes stuff, which no normal Satch or Vai fans are coming to hear. Not even King Crimson fans are going to hear that shit. It's a shame, but that's what most of his solo stuff focuses on now. He's an excellent guitarist and can still play incredible music at his age, but doesn't showcase it much.

I went too see them satch,via and malmsteem in pensacola florida last year. I was going to see malmsteem but via stole the show! He can do it. awesome

You are absolutely right. I have that DVD, and I'm a huge Malmsteen fan. He just takes himself a little too seriously for my taste. Vai is so far, and beyond anyone else that he's totally on a different plane. His performance is jaw-dropping.
 
malmsteen isn't the guy you see media draw him as, i've met him several times here in sweden. Of course he's a little bit wild but he's really kind and treats everyone well

And for the record, robert fripp sucked balls this g3 tour... i wanna see eric johnson again :rolleyes:

Malmsteen definantly kicked it, I enjoyed watching him rip the neck to pieces, he can burn for sure, Via just put on a show.........a lot of diversity and really rocked, got a standing ovation, Satch was good but the showmanship wasnt close to Via. when they all 3 came out and played together, it was killer, i wish i would of had my camera phone back then, that would have been a memorable shot.
 
yea, i didn't like the jam in the end that much (didn't see yngwie on the show here in sweden) fripp sucked, he just sat there hiding behind the speakers

it's pretty obvious you dont play guitar nor have any musical appreciation for musicianship. These guys dont just get up there and strum power cords like sooo much of todays music is. No solo's whatsoever. these guys can play and it takes years to be able to play like they do. As far as lifting to there music, music is just a filler while I lift, my phsyc comes from my mindset, not the music thats playing.
 
I think you smackdaddy and cboogsrun are confused. Cboogsrun is clicking on the link of Fripp that I posted and his statements are about that. Cboogsrun, we mostly hate Fripp, that's what this thread is about, we DON'T lift to Fripp. Smackdaddy is thinking that Cboogsrun is talking negatively about metal in general like satch/vai.

The whole point of this thread, Cboogsrun, is that the metal band G3 has replaced a player with this Fripp character who DOES sound like he's fucking an 80-year-old. HE doesn't fit at all. He blows. What producer cooked this collaboration up?

BTW, I don't listen to complex metal much when I lift anyway. I prefer simpler stuff like Hatebreed. The reason is that the complex metal has too many notes which collide with the cheesy pop on the gym loudspeakers leaking through my headphones. It gives me a headache to hear satch and brittney at the same time. Something hardcore and simple, like Hatebreed or Slipknot, collides less with the overhead PA and is more listenable.

Apparently Satriani and Vai have a lot of respect for Robert Fripp and enjoy playing with him.
 
What happened to eric johnson? wasn't he on the original tour? I saw g3 in houston a couple years ago w/ satch, vai and that dude from dream theater (forget his name, petrucci or something) - he was ok
