Funny shit happened today at work. Recently, the company that hosts the company's website was bought by this bigger company, Interland. In the month we've been with Interland, we've had more problems than in the entire 2 years we've been with the other people. We've had about 15 hours of downtime this week alone.

The funny part? Click here to see what my boss and I found today after giving the sales department a ring and a bitch.

Oh the humanity!

Haha, yeah. Thankfully I'm going to be spending the whole day searching the web for new hosts and preparing a big report. I've hated the people we've been hosting with ever since I couldn't connect to our FTP for a whole day and ended up fixing the problem myself.

occasionally on that list you would see one exellent report and you could just imagine someone in the company writing it himself :)

you've gotta love tech support that get you to do the job for them;)

Yup. There was actually one time that I was unable to connect to our FTP for close to 24 hours. I called tech support at around noon the first day and didn't bug them again until 6pm. They said it'd be fixed by morning, which it wasn't. At that point I went through hell to fix it myself, then went to their online support ticket system and closed the ticket with the message "Fixed it myself. Thanks anyway." Think they e-mailed or called us to apologize for their incompetence? Hah.

do you need physical access to the machines?
if not, then I would highly recommend pair.com. they have been rock solid for me.
if you need phyiscal access to the machine, or really high end stuff, then I would suggest exodus or rackspace.
 
No, Happy. I don't need physical access and would really prefer that I didn't. Pair.com looks very nice, along with various other hosts I've found including AssortedInternet, dimension8, and HostRocket... but there's just one problem. None of these web hosts have "24 hour phone support."

Is this a problem for me? No... I know how tech support works, especially since I've had to fix shit in the past. If it's broken, I know it's broken and I'm working on it, and bugging me isn't going to help. All of these hosts have "e-mail us and we'll fix it" policies, but my boss doesn't like that. He wants someone who will answer the phone and say "we're working on it."

I've been looking almost all day and the only hosts I can find with phone support either suck complete ass or are one of those "unlimited bandwidth!" scammers. Every single GOOD host I've found doesn't offer phone support.

I'll be damned if I'm going to stay with these Interland clowns, though.
