functional muscle

Im just wondering what you guys think about functional muscle vs non. for example, i find the bigger i get, the less functional i become. Im more uncordinated and just bulky. My flexibility gets worse. So even though i look good, i dont feel in shape. Anyone out there experience this?? ANY IDEAS??

Had the same problem before a Strongman Comp, actually my first comp. I was really gym strong but I was limited by my lack of flexability and condition. After that I did a lot more compound lifts and worked my core. PLenty of olympic lifts and Sprints and agility drills with stretching. I know that when I train for isolation of muscles and go slow all the time I get good size gains but I lose overall strength and exploosiveness. Just train for it IMO

5'10" 200lbs 10%bf...i sometimes feel that im too bulky for simple things, like running for example. Granted, there are athletes much bigger than i am, i just feel i have become more uncoordinated.

Lord sus what are some good agility drills?

if you want to be good at something train for it. if you want to be more agile and/or flexible do ballet, yoga, maybe play some basketball.

if you want to be able to run and move swiftly try running regularly. climb stairs, play on a jungle gym, do handstands, whatever it takes bro.

martial arts is a good idea too. they do some insane stretches.

prioritize bro.

Good posts by Lumberg and Lord Sust....

You need to diversify bro.... choose an activity that will work the traits you want to improve....

What made you think you were not in shape?
-Bad game of hoops? Then play more hoops, run, jump, etc...
-Pickup football? Play more fb, run, agility, etc....

Like lumberg says above, "if you want to be good at something train for it. "

Here are some football agility drills... but keep in mind they will strenghthen specific abilities.... doing a drill that will improve your ability to drop into coverage from a linebacker position will have little carryover to improving your crossover playing hoops....

I have the same problem, 5'9", 245lbs at 11% bf, and things are getting ackward. But I know that its a result of not doing much in the way of flexibility training. In the gym and especially compound lifts, I have tons of strength and flexibility, but outside the gym I dont. I have seen many guys bigger than me way more flexible, like B Fold, but like I said I know its because I dont train for it

Shuffle drills, shuttle runs, latral drills, sprinting drills, plyos. Also I really think playing a physical sport help- I start to get really quick when practicing MMA, or boxing or even flag football- for some reson the competitive nature allows me to work out much harder and gause myself againt other and work on weaknesses
