fuel for running..

After almost 3 months of no running activity tomorow I will hit the road again.

I used to run 3 or 4 times per week ,3 miles each...

What do you usually drink/eat before and after your running?
 
I honestly have no idea if this helped or not, but I ate 1/4 of a Hershey bar about an hour before my first half marathon. I ran it very easily in 1'35" Does anyone have an opinion as to whether the bar helped or hurt me?

I think you could eat moderate/high GI cabs during your half marathon, not 1/2 hour before

BTW what / when was your last meal before the race ?
 
you are running about 3 miles...? a perfect snack an hour before that distance run would be a bananna or a half of a wheat bagel... They are both great for fuel... some people find it easier to digest the bananna though.

i frequently run 5k's (3.1 miles) as well as I've taken part in a marathon.
 
What drink would be good after a 3 miles run?
Whey protein would be OK?

What about gatorade?

I really do not remember what it was (the race was a few years ago). The race was early though so I don't think it was much. I was probably too worried about eating too much and being full. I did have power aid type stuff during the race as well though. I'm sure that helped.

gatorade is a great replenishing fuel for during your run to keep your glycogen stores filled... after a run I would have a protein shake with simple sugars to help your muscle recovery
