Fucking Bellsouth

Grrr.

I have an Alcatel 1000 ADSL external DSL modem. I wanted to set up a home network using a Linksys 4 port DSL router.

Bellsouth: "No sir... you need the new super duper Speedtouch ADSL Home ethernet modem for that!"

Me: "So, there is absolutely no way to set up a home network unless I get that particular modem?"

Bellsouth: "No sir."

So, since they are over-pricing it for like $150 or something, I head over to eBay and win a brand spanking new one for $95.

Today, I actually get someone on the phone who can distinguish his head and his ass, and I am told that my old 1000 ADSL will work just FINE and that most people who call actually request to get the old 1000 ADSL instead of the new Speedtouch.

In other words, I'm fucked out of $95.

Any ideas besides: "try to sell it back on eBay and kick yourself when it sells for $20 less than that?"

i worked for bellsouth tech support warik, so i have had to tell people like yourself that exact thing. that company is retarded. they were so bass ackwards i had to get out. no one knew what was going on. It's funny that they are still doing the same thing with the same modems. Everyone wanted the alcatels, and not the little gay speedtouches. *sigh*

It's absolutely ridiculous and insulting. They told me an ouright lie and now I'm out $100 unless someone will miraculously buy it from my on eBay even though people are selling them for $20 less now.

i'm telling you, see if they will knock fees off your monthly access charges. They'll never reimburse you cash, but they may reimburse in service you would normally pay for.

Nope... because I didn't buy it from them. I bought it from eBay because Bellsouth was overpricing it. Their little white lie in hopes of getting me to buy it from them ended up fucking me two-fold.

Put it back on ebay. If it sells for $20 less than that, it sounds like you made a stupid purchase to begin with.

If you knew you wanted to do a home network you shouldn't haven't bought an external modem but maybe you didn't know that. I have bellsouth and they give my modem for free. I think I could have requested the ethernet one but with my old, no free slot mother board it made so sense. You can buy a USB router but good luck finding one because I hear they are quite difficult to locate one. Maybe you can find on on Ebay too. I think it would be cheaper than a ethernet modem but probably not by too much.
