Did you get everything hooked up for the Army, and did your knee waiver go through? You'll never guess what I've decided to do now when I get out....let's just say I'll be wet and miserbale for over 6 months ;)

Sup Buck? I was just about to start a thread asking you how your career plans were going.

Let me guess, you're going for SEAL training.

As for me, my knee waiver went through but I missed the deadline by about 2 days. I have to wait for the next one (in a month). That gives us time to perfect my package and let my foot heal. I strained the arch from a bit too much lifting and running.

Yeap, I start BUD/S in January. I'll have to give ya my e-mail addy before I start the training. It's a LONG training evolution. Over 6 months of just BUD/S, then jump school (again), and then SQT for another like 4 months. I'm excited, but also kinda of nervous. The school has a 80% attrition rate.......During just the first phase, you have to be able to run 4 miles in under 30 mins (on the beach in boots and uts.) I'm gonna gear my training toward soley running, swimming, and calistenics (pull-ups, push-ups, crunches, etc.) w/ maybe some light lifting too. I plan to be around 205 maybe less when I start the school...so I've got some major weight to lose. You still gonna be an Infantry officer, or have you changed your mind?

No idea what kind of officer position I'll be put in. Infantry is only 1 option. Basically, I don't want a desk job and I don't want to be sealed up in some tank. I'd love to hear more in depth descriptions of some of the other positions. I fugure I'll be able to gauge what I want a lot better after basic and some of OCS (which is when I choose I think).

You're dropping some serious weight for this. You plan on gaining it back? Why do you have to wait so long before you start?

I think you'll be able to pull it off. But there's no shame in dropping out of that training. It's some fucked up shit.

Yeah, I plan on gaining it back when I get w/ the Teams. I get out of the Marines in Nov, and then I have to join the Naval Reserve and just sit around and wait for all my paperwork to go through to get a slot for BUD/S. I'll have to find some night time civy job (damn nasty civilains;) ) to pass the time and to make some $$ while I'm waiting. Good thing is w/ being a prior service member, I don't have to go to an MOS school or any shit like that, just straight to BUD/S. I WILL NOT FAIL, hence the reason I'm dropping weight to set myself up for success. Most of the training is MENTAL, and I have a considerable edge over the other people there. I will make it. You should be done w/ all your schooling before I get out of mine, I'm sure we'll bump paths...the infantry/specials ops community is smaller than you think.

If all goes well for me, I expect my training to be done around Jan-March of next year depending on what school I go to after OCS. We'll definetly trade emails before I take off. And there's always this board.

Why can't you apply as an active duty Marine? It would probably require you to re-up before you could apply, but it just seems better than going into the Navy Reserves.

You have to be in the NAVY to be a Seal. I will get augmented to active duty after I complete BUD/S.

I could have sworn that any branch could be a SEAL. I thought I even heard of Air Force guys making it and being an active SEAL while technically in the Air Force. Guess you'd know better though.

Negative. Some schools are like that though, ie jump school, SERE, combat diver, Ranger School, pathfinder...etc, etc. Any service can go to these schools, but not BUD/S.

If I get off on this shit like I think I'm going to and my knees hold up, Ranger School is definetly a path I want to go down. I'm just starting from scratch on the cardio end of things. Prior to Jan, I never really did ANY cardio. It was all about gaining weight. I have to get proficient at running and build up all those small supporting tendons and muscles. I think a deca cycle would do me nicely. I should have done one before I went to basic.

I haven't made it to Ranger School or Sniper school yet :( (I'm gonna try to go to them ASAP after I get to the teams) Maybe if you make it to those we'll be in the same class :)

The world would be WAY too small of a place if that actually happened. :FRlol:

There's lots of variables with me getting into Ranger School.

Good luck to both of you guys with your military paths.

Buck, I'll be coming out of PI in Nov.

I heard about SERE school. after hearing stories about how the training goes, it sounded very interesting. I am just a fan of pain, and torture, what can I say?
