I`ve read you should`nt double up on the 1mg tabs if you missed a day, so that would tell me you can`t start off with a higher dose. Is that correct? I took my first tab today but will be starting my cycle way before the 1 or 2 months you should be taking finasteride before a cycle.

How important is waiting the 1 or 2 months before a cycle to get it in your system and can I take two - 1mg tabs a day for a week or two? How bad can it be because they have the 5mg tabs for Proscar?

you're right, proscar is 5 mg, so it won't hurt you.

it just hasn't been shown that taking any more than 1 mg/day will make your hair grow any faster, whether you've been taking it before or not.

the thing where they say it takes 3 months to see a noticable difference, I think a lot of that is because hair only grows about 1/2 inch per month.. so think about how many months it would take to see a big difference.

however, if you take more than 1 mg/day, your prostate could get smaller!

Sides go up with the dosage. Particularly sides like loss of libido. Proscar reduces serum DHT pretty quickly, so I don't really see the need to "frontload" it. Not to mention that the drug has a halflife of 12hrs...

Good enough. Thanks. It`s just that I`ve been hearing to "have it in your system for at least a month" before starting a cycle. I don`t have at least a month, so I wanted to know where I stand.

Sure I can wait until I start, but who wants to wait? lol

Not worried about the libido sides due to the Test cycle coming up.

the reason for being on before a cycle is that DHT 2 has a halflife of about 30 days, so even though you're blocking most new DHT from forming, the stuff already attached to your scalp and prostate are still there. it takes time for it to go away, and then more time to start regrowing hair. in theory at least, if you start a high test cycle and finasteride at the same time your serum DHT levels could go up since you're just blocking about 70% of normal conversion (who knows how much on a cycle at several times your natural test production), so additional DHT could go to your scalp and cause hair loss....

This is what I started yesterday. I`m upping the dose to 5 mg for about 20-30 days and then going back down to 1 pill a day after that. I think I may even do the 1 per day year round . How does that sound? Libido is not an issue because of the upcoming test cycle.


A lot of ECA and being 35 years old I figured it can`t hurt for about a month of the 5mg dose. Any thoughts on length of dose for prostate?

There's a lot more to libido than just test. That's why taking even 1mg ED can reduce some guy's libido even though serum test goes up....If you can deal with this side and the unproven risk that reduced DHT might hinder gains, then there's really no serious risk in taking the 5mg ED as you are planning.

OK, How about the length of the 5mg, Is 3-4 weeks good? It would be about a week or two into the cycle or just about AT the start of cycle when it drops down to 1 mg again.

i asked my doc about how much time i need for the proscar to stop any additional fall out of hair. he said that it should kick in immediately, but it would take a couple of months before i noticed any new growth. so this would suggest not to frontload, but my doc is an ass and i dont trust his opinion too much.

plus i upped my dose of proscar to 2.5mg e/d while i was on test, and i still suffered from libido issues. trust me, its not fun.

Why do you think you need it? are you prone to MPB? If not why not just go with topical spiro?

I don't see any reason at all to front load it. I don't understand this "in your system at least a month" theory. I would just think you would want to use it as soon as you start increasing T levels. If you think you need 5mg ED then you need that amount all the way through the cycle not just for the first 3-4wk certainly not for the 3-4wk prior to the cycle. Sorry, I guess I am not sure what you are trying to do or ask.

I have 300 tabs of the proscar and if it won`t hurt using the 5mg at first AND it can help the prostate, then I`ll use it for a month... at 5. I`m not concerned with libido at this point.


Hopefully I will go to Avodart eventually. Right now I`m beginning 5% minoxidil, 2% Nizorol, Poly 80 shampoo, Spiro, and the proscar. I have some and ordered the rest. I`ll see how everything works and tweek it from there. I`m already receding naturally. I will be thinning more if I don`t do anything now.

i tried purchasing avodart online but they want a prescription, and my doc doesnt know enough about avodart to feel "comfortable" writing a script for it. any suggestions on where i can get it?

let me comment on the libido issue with proscar based on my experience past and present..

I started using it a while back and quit b/c the decreased libido was too bad. So, I decided that I would just never use test again and never use finasteride again.

well the urge to use test again was too great, so i purchased some more proscar and started running it a couple of months before my cycle. the first month my libido was horrible. after that however, my sex drive came back in full force.

most of the studies i have read have stated that decreased libido has rarely been reported by people taking finasteride and that it usually is temporary. I didn't believe it, but for me it was temporary.
