Front Squats With Or Without A Board???

Guys, I'm curious to find out how many guys do Front Squats or regular Squats with a 2' x 4' or plates under their heels? I know it's not supposed to be good, but I can't get into a low position without it. I remember seeing pictures of Dave Draper and Arnold doing Front Squats with a board under their heels. Is this REALLY that bad of an idea??? My main focus is quad development...
 
I don't do it persoannly I don't like the feel of a board, they sometimes slip, just use work boots with heels on them, much more stable

Good advice.

I've taken near 405 down in Chucks with no problem. You have to learn to sit BACK instead of down and front. Work on flexibility...and it will just take time to get stronger.

You don't want to sit too far back or else your upper back will kink forward and take a pounding, causing blackout.

You still want the back to be fairly vertical. Otherwise the bar will roll forward and back things happen :)
