As in all the churches of the holy ones, women should keep silent in the churches, for they are not allowed to speak, but should be subordinate, as even the law says. But if they want to learn anything, they should ask their husbands at home. For it is improper for a woman to speak in the church. (1 Corinthians 14:33-35 NAB)

Wives, be subordinate to your husbands, as is proper in the Lord. (Colossians 3:18 NAB)

Gimme a sec tuts... I totally have a retort for that. For I don't feel a woman should remain silent but more or less from reading what I have read rely on her husband to be the superior and make the proper decisions in the household.

Is this the old test?

Btw, I am not that hard core Christian ya know. I FORNICATE

So... I completely believe in a man being the head of the household, If indeed that said man is going to abide by the rules of the bible. And his wife should be beneth him. BUT, that does not mean being abusive or not being able to being able to preach her preaching. If that were so, Joyce Myer and Jonnie Lamb (believe that is her last name) would not have their own Ministery.

I have not one time said the bible was to be followed word by word, but more of an interpretation by individual. I've read it, i've studided it, gone to classes and have a different view from my familly each and every time. It is infact an interpretation of time and events. Alot is fact, alot is fiction... But whom knows what is what.

Btw, what sparked this thread lessy? Hell, I haven't been on here all that much lately. Are you lacking people to debate with?

Good thread Frisky. One thing I would like to point out is that you are correct men are not supposed to own or abuse their wives in fact, it's just the opposite. Women are to submit but not to a man with an iron fist, but to a man as the bible commands is a godly man that must love his wife as Christ loved the church. Christ DIED for the church and all of us. You are to submit to a man that is commanded by the word of god to love you as sacraficialy as God loves you. Which is more servantlike? Some are afraid of the specific word submit because of the implications it has of losing ones freedom. but I do not beleive that is the bibles model. If you submit to a godly husband, he should be putting your good ahead of his own and doing all he can to love and SERVE you. Your good is higher than his own. He should be willing to die for you. People hate religion and hate god/jesus for what MAN has screwed up, but the bible has some pretty good ideas in it if you have an open mind to it. :) K to you Frisky.

Just for reference, I am getting my view on this issue from Ephesians 5:22-28 roughly.

OLD TESTIMENT is not law, its a suggestion of living. The law is no longer needed after the ultimate sacrifice in the start of the new testiment.

You are taking the bible out of context, and what version are you quoting? What is NAB?

I think he is referring to the New American Bible used mostly by Catholics, or at least thats what all my catholic friends use.

You are correct about the old testament. When the curtain was torn so to speak, the old law was no longer law as the ultimate sacrafice was made.

oh and Frisky, I TRY to be a Christian (I fail on a daily basis mind you) and I fornicate like a freak....with my wife of course. lol

I have a tiny pocket bible that only has the song of soloman in it and it's all highlighted. My wife hates it when I read that book to her....

"Your breasts heave like two deer in a dew moistened meadow....." lol

Sounds so dirty.

I agree w/ you on the submitting to your man. I know it sounds bad, but things like that actually work if the man you are with loves you the way the Old Testiment meant in the context of those verses. It also commands husbands to love their wives. If you love your wife, the way the bible intended, there is no fear to submit to him. That love that is taked about is rare today.

I wonder what the King James 1611 says in that verse Lestat quoted.

KJV version:
33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

34 ¶ Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

36 What! came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

37 ¶ If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
