Friend can not pay back his bets...

My boy bet this weekend and now says he does not have the money to pay the $3k to me. He won 2 weeks ago $500 and I paid him out right away. Last weekend he lost $1200 and he paid me back right away but this week says he will not have the money for A MONTH!!!

I have known him for 25 years and he is MY BOY. Not just a friend or someone I know, one of my best friends. Why do people bet over their heads...

Now I have to float $2,250 to my guy to cover him and eat my $750 till he pays be back. Should I charge him pts? $40 a week per $1000 so $120 a week till I get paid. Why should I get fucked becuase of his fuck ups? We are friends but money is money. I hating doing this with friends!!!

What should I do or not do? Anyone ever been in this situation?
 
I would not hurt him. We are very close friends.
I turned his account off already so he can't bet online or over the phone. He is locked out.
I will charge him pts but now I have to talk to my wife and take money out of our joint account to cover him and she is going to be PISSED AT ME! Another whole problem and fight... FUCK!!!

Just start out with the whole "Yes dear I KNOW how bad I fucked up. It will NEVER happen again." ,and you will get very minimal shit. Just make sure that it doesn't.... or you WILL have hell to pay. Wives do NOT forget shit like that.
 
Someone else did it 2 years ago. $12k and took 3 months to pay back. He got his face fucked up pretty good, I only knew him not boys with him. She was pissed back then and we were only dating and it was my money. She wanted me out of doing it but it is hard. Last year I made $34k cash, no taxes. The year before $17k. I guess it is the nature of the business... Dealing with fuck ups that is.

You have to have someone you can trust involved that can take care of your friends.
In the very least if you set up payments with points someone has to go to his house and fuck shit up. I mean smash shit and hold a knife to his throat. Have them tell him it is their business too and they are fucking with him.
That always does the trick.
 
I feel ya Slat. Never had this problem with friends, they know better. Other dudes, I say fuck it and have it taken care of but with my boy... He bet over his head and fucked up. Dumb fuck!
 
Since you're super duper rich just let him pay you back as he gets the money.

He is taking advantage of you. He knew exactly what he was doing and what could happen.
Thats bullshit.
I hold my friends to a higher standard then everyone else.
He HAS to be dealt with even if you do pay it for him.
This whole situation is going to make your life harder!
When a dog bites your hand you whip its ass so it knows not to do it again even if you never intend to pet the fucker.
He has to learn his lesson. If he doesn't this time it may be with someone else who will fuck him up bad or even his family!

I said I will make him pay pts and have someone else collect and then it is on him. If he does not pay, the other guy deals with him not me. Taking myself out of it. It's on him now.

Ummm you can't equate the two and you know it.

If my husband goes out and buys himself something that brings him pleasure and we aren't hurting for money I would have ZERO issue. But if it were something like this, ESPECIALLY if it has happened before I would put a hurtin on my husband's ass PERSONALLY regardless of who generated the income... it is OURS COLLECTIVELY.

FYI - I don't think I ever said I am a tough guy. I don't claim to be. I hate conflict to be honest with you. I am not the muscle in our group, more of the mind and pr person.

You dont go to your guy unless you cant handle the situation. Not sure why you would suggest that.
If he is your boy, dont worry about it. Float him and let him pay you back in a month. Charge him intrest, and be done with it.
Which is more important to you? His friendship or the money? make your decision based on that.
 
That's what I am doing, it just pisses me off that he even put me in that situation. Now I have to have a talk with the wife to float him. Annoying for me! Plus a friend said not to charge him pts but to me that is STUPID. That's what I was looking to find out. Charge or not. Not about beating his ass. He is my boy.

but talk of collecting debts implies, however subliminaly (sp), that you are a tough guy or trying to be one
 
Money is money...friends is friends...do whatever you would want done to you.

I borrowed money from a friend about a year ago...i paid him the going rate of a CD at the time 5%. He was perfectly fine with that.

The decision is do you want to try and make money off your friend...more so than you did with the original bet. I wouldnt charge more than 5% myself...friends are more important that any extra money you would get.
 
Collecting debts means picking up money that is owed. 97% of the time it is an easy pick up. I only deal with people I know and know me and how it works. He just got in over his head and will pay pts. $40 per $1000 per week.

Not too much but enough to make him pay quicker then later...

Meeting with him tonight to finalize how we are moving forward. He offered to pull money out of his 401k and take the hit but I don;t want to fuck him up like that. At least he is looking to make good.

no, i meant 5% annual return. the same thing you would have earned had you invested that money in a CD....only 4% in a money market.

thats less than $3 a week.

But its a little different situation than mine. I guess if he has to pay more maybe he wont do it next time.
 
$3 a week... I would run up $30-50k in debt at that rate. :-)

My friends wouldn't pull that shit on me without knowing they'd be paying it back with interest, or they won't be my friend anymore.

Tell him to take a loan out from his 401k. That way he pays you immediately (at the most it takes 2 days to process this, they can do an EFT the same day in most cases) and he ends up paying himself back into his 401k over the long run. There is no tax hit in this situation.

No hard feelings, no wasted money either way. Dude will learn his lesson, too.

well whatever you do dont ever let him bet without money up front in the future. i think since hes a close friend that letting him know he let you down and make him feel like shit is worse than an ass beating. if it happens again, and i hope your smart next time and take my first advice, thats when a serious ass wooping is in order.
 
Spoke with him last night and he is borrowing money from his girl. $1500 this week.

Then he will give me $200 each week for the next 3 weeks and then pay me $1500 on the 15th. So he is getting hit with a $600 fee for making me wait for 4 weeks to have it all.

Another guy is picking up the money from him each week so it takes me out of it. It is on his ass now. Pay up or deal with the other guy...

Got my first set of $1500 last night, my guy picked it up and dropped it off to me. We are on track! Next 3 weeks he will pay me $200 each Wednesday. Let's hope it goes smooth!
