frank zane 1977 mr o

something surreal aboutthat video. the editing, the dual images, the slow motion. not sure if that was the actual music he posed to, but it was beautifully choreographed. frank a very confident poser, a lot of presence. he looks almost one dimensional...flat.

I'm not trying to be arrogant here at all, but if i had the physique in 1977 that i have today, i'd have an Olympian physique. That's how much the sport has evolved. On the other hand, if Frank Zane brought his 1977 physique to the stage today, it probably wouldn't be enough to earn him pro status.

Frank was badass back in the day. I'm just trying to make a point about how much the sport has evolved.

gautho has a point. for todays standards, and todays drug enhanced super bodies, frank does not look as impressive. he does look small. most guys want more mass these days.

i agree, look at dexter. he would have been an ultimate competitor back then. he never comes near winning with the whole freak thing going on. he is the only guy i think looks good nowadays personally

Frank is still badass... his symetry and asthetics are as close to perfect as anyone will ever be... no he is not huge... but his physique has more charachter than anyone has ever had...
no disrespect... you have a powerful physique as well... one of the best on these boards... cant take that from you... and size wise you have him beat... but overall... i just dont see him being beat...
he could get a pro card in todays lineup... just not as a super heavy...
if the sport could get back to what he presented... i think a lot more people would be interested in working towards a goal like that...

I'm too tired to say anything intelligent, but of the three videos, you posted
Zane looks Phemonaial (sp) Those older guys all had nice thin waists.

Look at Ronnies' waist, ugh!

SO TRUE! Those guys were what it was all about. These new freaks are a joke in my book. Yeah I respect their hard work it takes, but they have lost sight of the goal, to create the ideal human being. Next to Arnold, Zane has the most perfect form. He is like a greek statue. I beleive his stats were something like 5'9" 190 lbs of pure ripped. Wicked!

I see the sport as changing but I have an issue with the world evolved. I guess it depends on how you define evolve. I see that as a step forward or progress, not trashing the art of body building into a lab experiment gone bad.

I cannot and will not take away the hard work and dedication of pros today, but they have missed the mark in my book. It's like trying to build a sports car and somehow creating a monster truck. Yeah it's big and all, but so grotesque and not even useable. There is no beauty or admiration, only shock and disgust. In my eyes, true bodybuilding was over about 15 years ago.

Great post, yours too professor. My favorite physiques are Shawn Ray, Flex Wheeler, Dexter Jackson. Yes the symmetrical BB'ers, not the mass monsters. However, I still like Dorian. There's something about the blue-collared worker. Everyone should view Blood and Guts.

a few flaws in your theory. in 1977 30 years ago if you were to be warped back in time you would only have the knowledge and supplements that existed in 1977 along with very low steroid usage.if you were to magically take you current body in todays condition and warp yourself back to 1977 you would prob be bigger then most of the guys on stage .then warp frank zane forward to 2006 along with zane you would have to add on another 30lbs of muscle to his body to get zane into the year 2006 with gh use ,higher drug doses supplements and protien drinks. that would put frank zane into pro condition to keep up with the other pros .

I see what your trying to say and all but its safe to say that the top pros back in the day were in their top shape today arnold might be 260lbs ripped on stage and frank zane 215lbs ripped on stage . It was a equal playing feild back then they all used a little drugs . Zane has been said to usd 15mgs of dbol along with 400mgs for his cutting cycles . So try to imagine him on todays cycles using every thing he can get a hold of .

I'm sure if zane did the cycles you are doing now zane would have a top quality pro body reguardless

These guys will start dying off soon enough then the sport will disappear or just be a small underground drug freak show or something will be done to kill off the drugs for the most part.

I was a lifeguard years ago from what I have seen for every day the sand was packed say 400people I saw maybe 4-5 people male and females that worked out maybe a steroid monster on saturdays and the other 390 people were fat and out of shape or skinny and flabby out of shape. So I garantee if you asked any of them who ronnie coleman was no one would have a clue except maybe a half dozen people. So as far as i'm looking at it now its already underground and a freak show that only gets respect from a very few people

well we dont know that, but as the current pros of today get older they will inevitablys stop taking huge amounts of drugs to maintain their physiques. will be hard for them to shrink down to normal size but no more so than a pro athlete who must eventually retire and become a normal civilian.

in five or ten years, where will pro bodybuilding be? how much biggercan these guys get. maybe there will be a backlash against the freaks of today and a return to a frank zane-asthetic. everything that is old becomes new again.

Guys who are/were champions, would be champions in "any" era, - just like if you took AAS out of the mix altogether, Arnold -> Coleman would still be the best..............

It's called "genetics" - and they play the biggest role in predispositioning "everyone" in how big or symetrical they will get. Guys may be bigger than Frank (as they were then), but his genetics would blow you out of the water

Frank's genetics are about as good as it gets - he would be great in any era.........
