does anyone here have any experience or wisdom regarding starting up a franchise? TOH (the other half) wants me to look into starting up a subway, which supposedly has a low startup cost compared to other franchises....

I'm looking into doing the same thing (not subway). Check the Small Business Administration website. Their website has a lot of information, helpful hints, and links. Also, check Subway's website for additional information and see if you can request a franchise package from them. It should contain information re: franchise fees, etc.

Also, visit your local community college. Most have a Small Business Development Center (SBDC). You can get free counseling on franchises, start-ups, etc. Probably in Cont. Ed.

You should look into Quizno's!!! They are the shit, and i hear that they only allow so many stores per area thus giving you the opportunity for more customers.
