I grew up in New England and lived in Florida for about 10 years. I moved here to San Diego about a year and a half ago and I am getting ready to move either to Phoenix or back to New England. I hate it here. In fact, every east coast person I know who has moved here hates it and usually moves back. The people are mostly inconsiderate assholes(no offense to those of you who are not), the laws are really liberal(which I dislike) and rent is sky high. It really depends what kind of life your looking for. It seems like everyone here loves it. Maybe I am just weird. I find the intelligence level to be very low compared to most east coast/midwest cities. Everyone here abbreviates every word- for example. I overheard this girl talking to her friend about candles. She said she got some really cool "voties"(as in votives)- it gets on my nerves. They say "veycay" for vacation and even still say rad. I think Cali is stuck in 1994 or something.
The job market sucks, but thats everywhere pretty much. Way more competition for even stupid low paying jobs. Driving here is also quite a hellish experience because everyone is completely overwhelemed with themselves and pays little attention to others. Courtesy does not exist here.
On the plus side, it is beautiful here, the weather is very nice and there are lots of places to go hiking, biking and that sort of thing. The clubs are so so and you might as well go to LA for that anyway. LA is its own planet really. LOL.
Anyway, just my opinion- of course I am an east coaster and find California to be annoying and overated. People can really make or break a city and if you like guys with crooked ball caps and pants down to their ass you might love it here. I also like to comment on the huge amount of flat assed, fat sagging out of the sides of their pants ugly girls I see everywhere but maybe someone finds that attractive. People stare allot, that is normal here but does not sit well anywhere else. I have yet to figure that one out.
I have noticed that of all the people I talk to that tell me how much they really love it here that very few have been anywhere else(except maybe Vegas) so I think their opinion counts for very little anyway. I can tell you that if your an east coast type of person you may want to visit here for a bit first.
Also, I would say San Fran is allot differant from So Cal, much more expensive and all that but cooler than here at least. I still would prefer to live in a state that doesn't give illegal immigrants free medical care and free college tuition. Call me crazy.
