? for gamers (GTA4)

I recently bought an XBOX, however I love Grand Theft Auto 3 (only available for PS2 & PC).

A friend said they are coming out with GTA4 soon that will be available on XBOX. Does anyone know anything about this and/or if it's true? I searched the web and only found info on GTA3.

I don't know about Xbox but in the next 6 months "Fire City" or otherwise known as (GTA4) will be coming out. I have no information or links on this. This is hearsay from the Opie and Anthony show when it was still on.

Its called vice city... not sure where the "fire" city came from..

I know for a fact that it isn't only for xbox.. Id be surprised if it even came out for xbox.. it will be out later this year for PS2.

I looked that up and it appears to only be on PS2 & PC, as I was fearing. I like XBOX better than PS2, but they're going to have to get some new games like GTA to keep me happy. Oh well, at least I have Halo in the meantime.

It's just kind of an add-on type level thing. The same engine, style game though. I'm totally there. One of the all time best games i've played, but still, its not really GTA4.

from a coding perspective, I'm curious as to why it isn't on the XBox. it has to be some licensing issues I would guess because it is out for PC and the directX drivers that it uses for that are pretty much what it would use for the XBox - so they could port it over very easily.

I don't own anything... oh, that's not true - I have a Nintendo 64 and a dreamcast - I forgot I had those. I never use them.

I would think that the majority of games available on consoles could be ported fairly easily (even more so from pc->xbox, and vice versa). But it all has to do with licensing issues. Everyone wants to have an exclusive.

Oh, and vice city comes out at the end of october for the ps2. I would think it would also hit shelves by christmas for the pc.

No it will not be for Xbox, Im pretty sure this one is PS exlusive.. Its called Vice City so its got the whole miami vice thing going for it, the game is MUCH more advanced, especially graphic wise

porting from xbox -> ps2 or vice versa is much harder than pc -> xbox.
the ps2's processor is specially designed to be good at vector math and it doesn't have that easy an API to work with it - whereas the xbox has directx. the ps2 is more like writing in extra hard assembler.
