Coffee question what causes a coffee to taste bitter? I have been going to the same Timmy Ho's for the past two weeks every day I had a good cup tell this morning for some reason it taste super bitter.

Roasting time is measured in seconds. A couple seconds and POOF crap coffee. Aflotoxin Mold also tastes bitter... maybe you should fill out your Will. now.

:lmao:

Too fine a grind can cause bitterness.

Not really, the finer the grind the hotter the cutting plates get.

Too Hot = Over roasted = bitter.

How your coffee is ground can greatly influence the flavor and strength of the final cup. The common misconception is that the finer grind produces a stronger cup, but caution should be exercised because too fine a grind can lead to over-extraction (bitterness). The grind relationship has more to do with the mechanical device extracting the coffee.

at any time during the preparation of said beverage did the server hold it near his groin region?

Damn, I thought maybe this would be a post about Anya's taint-measuring adventure a couple of weeks ago...

Ever return a cup of coffee? I have thought about it but bascially I am to dam lazy to do it.

I've never gotten a bad cup of coffee from a store likely due to the fact that
I only BUY it from places that know how to brew it..

7-11 or Circle K or other convenience stores are a NO GO for coffee IMO...

Starbucks, Barnies, Seattles or an Independent coffee house are it.
Otherwise I make my own or drink Tea

FOOCHER... don't bring that up. Anya is COMPLETELY ignoring me ever since then...

Not sure why either... I even put her quote up in my signature....

Hey Dana, there are a few things I can think of right off hand

1) The coffee maker needs to be cleaned.
2) Like C-sharp said a very fine grind will make a much stronger brew, which will also be more bitter. Could be the shop ground a batch a little finer than usual or didnt add quite as much water as usual or both.

I'm betting it's NOT that the beans were roasted too much. Most all coffee shops buy their beans already roasted and that's all mechanized, not much room for human error. FYI, the more a bean is roasted the more of the bean's nature (distinctive) flavor you destroy. The bean starts to taste like what I describe as "burned".

'Taint measuring'?!?

Anya, I can only assume this is Off Limits?

You can count on that. She is POSTING in the thread, but made no comments about all the mentionings of taint.

Anya - Seriously, if you are offended by my quote or something else, let me know. I am NOT about harassing anyone.

if you put someone on ignore, you can't see thier posts?

I doubt she did that... because there are two other people that posted about it in this thread alone. Not to mention you quoted me and the such. Certainly she would see that.

Anya it tasted burned  good thing about tea dam hard to make a bad cup. Oh and FYI Bors this thread is about coffee not about taint.

Then I'm gonna say either dirty coffee maker or an unusually strong batch got brewed, maybe both.

JH1, it's all good. The sig is fine.

super -

if they didn't add enough coffee grounds or added too much water, it could produce bitter coffee. as the water filters through the grinds, it strips the flavor. if too much of the flavor is drained from the beans, it starts to taste bitter. so, not adding enough grounds or adding too much water could have this result.

jerkbox, stop eating at dunkin dounuts, that is for fat people.

shak, you play too much BG II, orb.

you americans do not have the pleasure of enjoying a nice "timy-hoes" (only the canadians will get that one) coffee in the morning.
