flat bench and close grip?

are flat bench and close grip to much alike to do the same day in a 5x5 routine? Also would doing a 2nd easy day that isnt 5x5 for each muscle be too much in a week? And what is this karma? Thanks.

Close-Grip, when performed correctly, is a Tricep lift. Flat Bench is a Chest lift. So yes, you can do them in the same routine, if you chose to do C/T on the same day.

Don't do a 2nd easier day for every muscle group. If you feel you need to bring one group up, throw them in on another day with a lighter workout to stimulate the lagging group twice. Just my call.

I work them together periodically, and as a point- when my CG is peaking my bench usually is too... I try to only do them together for a few weeks at a time tho- then switch out to something else...

I give each body part it's own day. I have started a 5x5 routine. I do 5x5 flat bench on day 2 and 5x5 C.G.B. on day 6. (8 days between bodyparts.)

The karma thing is kind of like "Props" points. You can give it and get it for good posts.

try this:

if you're going to start off with flat bench 5x5, then for triceps do weighted dips 5x5. cg bench and weighted dips are the kings of tricep exercises. for me doing flat bb bench and cg bench would be too much benching in one day.

however incline db press 5x5 and cg bench would work great. why not hit inclines for your 5x5?
