First Cycle in 25 Years!

I'm 45 and I've been lifting forever. I did dbol for 6-8 weeks 25 years ago, but nothing since. I've got a decently developed chest (275 bench, BW+100# dips for 5 reps, BW+50# chins for 5 reps), but I only started squats (205x5) and deads (300+x8) within the last two years., so my back and legs need a lot more work.

By Feb, I should be 170 lbs and 12% bf. I've thought about doing a short cycle (oral only) to give me a boost before the summer. Maintaining as much of the gains as possible would be paramount.

Any suggestions or is this not feasible?

whats your goal here? are you trying to put on a lot of size or just shred up with a bit of size? i need to know your goals to give you the proper advice... also, how tall are you??

Yeah, just looking to put on a bit of muscle (5#?) but keep it on! My program is almost exclusively squats, deads, bench, rows, pull-ups, dips, etc.

I'm 5-10.

i think you said it yourself in your first post. at 5 10 and not even 170 pounds its obvious your legs need a lot of work.

if you were 25 i would tell you to spend the next couple years getting more serious and building a trunk.. but at 45 and you saying you have been working out forever but don't have very much mass on your frame I honestly don't know what to tell ya. maybe you just have shitty genetics? no idea

I actually rejected advice from the gym owner and member of their powerlifting team to squat over 10 years ago. I think if I had been squatting, I would have more size. Unfortunately, I've been primarily benching and curling until two years ago.

I think my genetrics aren't great with 6-7/8" wrists, but my chest is decent and I have 15" arms (I think 16.4" or so is supposedly "max" genetic potential for that wrist size).

How about good beginners program like starting strength? That will sort out your lower body and back quicker than anything else, you don't even need juice, just a boatload of quality calories and some structured training...

Thanks, Matt. I've been doing Rippetoe's Texas Method which has added 6 lbs of lean mass over the last year. I realize that I have the potential to grow a lot more with my legs and back, and I'll keep adding weight to the bar until I do:)
